Stone is one of the most consistent demands in Graveyard Keeper 2, feeding everything from early construction to mid-tier crafting recipes. Instead of walking to the Quarry and swinging a pickaxe every time you run low, you can hand the entire job to undead workers. Once the chain is running, stone extracts itself, travels underground, and lands in your Yard ready to use.

Quick answer: Build a Zombie Stone Quarry at the Quarry, assign a zombie with a pickaxe to it, then add a Zombie Supplier Station and a Porter Station each with their own zombie. The porter hauls stone straight to the Yard’s Stone Stockpile.

What you need before automating stone

An infinite stone node sits on the cliff in the Quarry, south of the Yard past the Inquisition Base. It can be mined indefinitely, so you never have to rely on loose town rocks that fail to respawn. That node is the anchor for the whole system, and everything else exists to move its output back home without you.

Two blueprints in the Building tech tree gate the setup. You need Blueprint: Zombie Stone Quarry and Blueprint: Porter Station before the workstations appear in the relevant build menus. Research unlocks the option only; it does not supply the materials or place the structures for you.

  • A cleared underground route from your home to the Quarry and Old Mine.
  • Blueprint: Zombie Stone Quarry (Building tech tree).
  • Blueprint: Porter Station (Building tech tree).
  • Three zombie workers to staff the quarry, supplier, and porter roles.
  • A pickaxe to equip on the zombie working the quarry node.

Open the underground route to the Quarry

Enter the basement beneath your home and head into the Writing Basement. From there, work through toward the Factory. Rubble blockades sit along this tunnel, and they must be dug out before the passage connects to the Quarry and the Old Mine.

Once the blockages are cleared, follow the Old Mine corridor north. It passes an existing Porter Station and leads out to the external Quarry entrance. This corridor is the highway your zombie porter will use to carry stone back to the Yard, so keeping it open matters.

Unlock the required Building blueprints

Open the Tech Tree from the top menu and switch to the Building category. Spend your points to unlock Blueprint: Zombie Stone Quarry and Blueprint: Porter Station. Both are needed before the quarry workstation and porter can be placed.

Build and staff the quarry workstations

At the Quarry cliff, open the build menu and place a Zombie Stone Quarry against the mining node. This is the workstation that extracts stone on its own once a worker is assigned to it.

Assign a zombie to the Zombie Stone Quarry and give that worker a pickaxe. Without the tool equipped, the zombie will stand idle instead of mining, so the pickaxe is not optional here.
Place a Zombie Supplier Station nearby and assign a zombie to it. This worker handles moving the extracted stone between the quarry and the transport chain rather than mining it.
Build the outdoor Porter Station and assign a zombie porter to it. The porter is what physically carries the finished stone blocks along the cleared corridor back toward your base.

A worker producing stone is only half the job. Extraction handles the crafting, while the supplier and porter handle logistics. If stone piles up at the Quarry instead of arriving home, the problem is a missing or unstaffed transport station, not the miner.

Confirm stone is delivering to the Yard

Return to the Yard and check the Stone Stockpile. When the chain is working, blocks accumulate there automatically as the porter completes trips from the Quarry. A filling counter on the stockpile confirms delivery is happening without any manual hauling on your part.

Materials held in the Yard’s Stone Stockpile are read directly by the Stonemason’s Workbench. You can queue Piece of stone or Polished Stone at the bench and it will pull from the stockpile, so there is no need to move anything into your inventory first.

With the miner, supplier, and porter all staffed, the loop runs on its own in the background. You are free to focus on quests and construction while a steady supply of stone keeps arriving at the bench, ready to craft the moment you need it.
