Graveyard Keeper 2: Where to Build Barricades

Barricades in Graveyard Keeper 2 are not free-placement structures you can drop anywhere on your land. They belong to a specific interior with pre-marked floor zones, and until you stand in that room the blueprints have nowhere to go — which is why players who have already hired mercenaries often end up wandering the yard looking for a build spot that does not exist there.

Quick answer: Build barricades inside the Barracks, south of the Crossroads on the world map. The building menu there offers three barricade blueprints that snap into marked floor zones.

Barricade build location: The Barracks, south of the Crossroads

Open the world map and take the southern route through the Crossroads until you reach the Barracks, then head inside. This is the same building where you speak to the mercenary recruiter and where the inquisitor waits at the war room table, so if you have already paid for mercenaries you have been in the right place the whole time.

Once inside, open build mode. The menu lists Barricade I, Spiked Barricade I, and Fortified Barricade I, and the floor carries highlighted zones that accept them. Blueprints will only settle into those marked spots, so there is no guesswork about angles or chokepoints here — the room tells you where the line goes.

Unlock the barricade tech node in the Metallurgy tree

If the barricade blueprints are greyed out, the problem is research rather than location. Simple Barricades sits in the Metallurgy branch of the tech tree as a large red node, and it only becomes reachable after you have befriended the captain and unlocked Reinforced Plank immediately before it.

Unlocking Reinforced Plank in the tree is not the same as being able to craft it. Some players hit a mastery level requirement that blocks the recipe, and raising mastery means equipping a toolbox in the relevant slot before the crafting option becomes usable.

Materials to craft before you travel to the Barracks

Barricades consume processed wood, so the build itself is fast but the preparation is not. Short Logs come off the Sawhorse, plank refinement happens at the Woodworking Workbench I and the Wooden Anvil, and the fat used for oiled planks comes out of alchemy equipment underground.

The Distillation Cube is built from the blueprint station in the Alchemy Lab basement, which you reach through the dungeon trapdoor. Getting down there depends on the quest chain that runs through Larry to the Plague Doctor — the same thread that opens the Alchemy Lab tower and its workbenches.

Place, hammer, and start the fight

With your materials in inventory, enter the Barracks and open the build menu. Pick a barricade blueprint and drop it onto one of the marked floor zones.
Repeat until all three zones are filled. Mixing tiers is allowed, so a standard Barricade I can sit beside a Spiked or Fortified version.
Hammer each placed blueprint to finish construction. A blueprint left as a ghost outline does not count as a completed defense.
Walk to the war room table, speak to the inquisitor, and choose the “We’re ready!” dialogue option to trigger the battle.

How to confirm the barricades are done

You know the work has registered when the marked floor zones show finished barricade models instead of translucent blueprint outlines, and when the inquisitor’s dialogue offers the readiness option at the war room table. If that option is missing, at least one placement is still unbuilt or a zone is still empty.

From there the barricades do what they are meant to do during the fight, absorbing damage and slowing attackers before they reach your mercenaries or armed zombies. Any that take damage can be patched afterwards with repair kits, so it is worth carrying a few before you commit to the battle.
