Amber Shards are the event currency of the Jurassic Update in Grow a Chicken Fighter, and they are earned by working through Jurassic objectives rather than by grinding the game’s normal content. The fastest rate comes from overlapping objectives, not from moving faster. One lap of the event island can advance a quest, fill your egg inventory, and push the Ancient Egg’s growth meter at the same time.
Quick answer: Open the Jurassic event menu, accept the best active quest, then run one full lap of the event island collecting every egg you pass, return to the Ancient Egg in the center to turn them all in, claim every unlocked reward, and immediately start the next lap.
Where Amber Shards come from
Shards are paid out by the event’s own systems. Everything below feeds into the same lap, which is why the loop works. Nothing outside this list pays Amber Shards.
| Source | How it pays out |
|---|---|
| Jurassic quests | Active quests listed in the event menu, split across Hourly and Daily tabs |
| Ancient Egg turn-ins | Eggs collected around the island are handed in at the glowing ring in the center, adding to the Growth counter |
| Growth tier rewards | Each tier “bursts” after a set number of Growth and hands out rewards such as +5 Amber Shards, +20 Amber Shards, Charm Dust, and a Royal Egg |
| Event Battle Pass | Tiers unlock as you gain event EXP; rewards sit unclaimed until you press Claim or Claim All |
| Stone King Admin Abuse | A timed event that pays shards while it is running |
The six-step Amber Shard loop

How to confirm the loop is paying out
The Growth counter is your progress bar. Every egg handed in at the ring moves it, and the tier panel tells you exactly how far away the next payout is with a “BURSTS IN” number of Growth. When a tier bursts, the reward appears on screen and the tier advances, which is the clearest sign the lap worked.

Two other signals are worth watching. An in-game announcement fires when an ancient egg appears in the ring, which is your cue to be at the center rather than on the far side of the island. On the pass screen, unclaimed tiers stay highlighted until you press Claim, so nothing is lost if you finish a lap before collecting.
Time wasters that pay no Amber Shards
Most lost shards come from time spent outside the event loop. These are the habits that slow the rate down the most.
| Activity | Why it costs you shards |
|---|---|
| Sitting on the dinosaur egg hatch screen | Watching the hatch animation pays nothing; close it and keep moving |
| Grinding Tower or Arena content | Only worth doing when an active Jurassic quest specifically asks for it |
| Running the island with no objective | Without an accepted quest, the lap only earns eggs instead of stacking progress |
| Waiting around for Stone King Admin Abuse | Idling for the event to start stops all other shard income |
Stone King Admin Abuse: Drop everything when it starts
Stone King Admin Abuse is the one thing that should interrupt your lap. When it goes live, it takes priority over the quest you are holding, because it is a strong shard source for the time it is active. The important part is the order of operations here. Keep farming the standard loop until the event actually begins, then switch over; do not park yourself at the boss area hoping it triggers soon.
Spending Amber Shards without wasting them
Shards only exist for the duration of the Jurassic Update, so anything that leaves the shop when the event ends is worth more than a small consumable. The crate section holds the Jurassic Pack with a Grand Prize, and spins there are priced at 125.
| Priority | What to buy |
|---|---|
| First | Limited event rewards that disappear once the Jurassic Update ends |
| Second | Progression boosts that speed up the rest of your event farming |
| Third | Dinosaur eggs, which feed hatch quests and event progress |
| Last | Minor filler items and small consumables |
Note: short boosts such as 2x Corn or a Hatch Luck Boost run on five-minute timers, so activate them at the start of a lap rather than while a menu is open.
Treat every lap as three jobs at once and the shard total climbs on its own. Accept a quest before you move, pick up eggs on the route you were already taking, and finish at the Ancient Egg with a claim pass through the event menu. The moment a lap starts serving only one of those three purposes, stop and reopen the event menu before you carry on.
