Grow a Garden 2 Chocolate Lab Guide (Sugar Egg)

Hatch the Uncommon pet from a Sugar Egg and copy seeds from the Seed Shop.

Hatch the Uncommon pet from a Sugar Egg and copy seeds from the Seed Shop.

The Chocolate Lab is an Uncommon pet in Grow a Garden 2. It arrived with the Muffin Bake update, and it does not wander the map the way most pets do. If you want one, you hatch it from a Sugar Egg and then leave it active in your garden.

Quick answer: Cook muffins, turn them in to the Baker NPC for Sugar Eggs, and hatch them. Chocolate Lab comes out 30 percent of the time.

Chocolate Lab hatch source

Look on the field all you want. This pet is locked to one egg. The Sugar Egg is a limited-time drop during the Muffin Bake event, and Chocolate Lab is exclusive to that egg.

Each Sugar Egg has a 30 percent chance to hatch Chocolate Lab. The pet’s rarity is Uncommon. If the egg gives you something else, you need another Sugar Egg. There is no world spawn to fall back on.

Sugar Eggs from muffin turn-ins

Sugar Eggs come from the event kitchen, not from a regular shop restock. You bake muffins, then hand them to the Baker NPC in the event hub. That turn-in is what puts Sugar Eggs into your reward pile.

Collect muffin ingredients from Fall Harvest crops. Those crops are the ingredient source for the bake.
Cook the muffins at the Ovens in the middle of the map. Finish the bake there before you go to the NPC.
Submit the finished muffins to the Baker NPC in the event hub. Each turn-in rolls mixed event rewards.

Sugar Eggs and Sugar Crates both appear in that reward mix. You know the step worked when the Baker NPC pays out and a Sugar Egg is in the haul.

Note: Craft the Rainbow Muffin when you can. Submitting it returns more rewards than the other cookable foods, which means more rolls at Sugar Eggs.

Seed Shop duplication chance

An active Chocolate Lab sits in your garden and watches Seed Shop purchases. After you buy a seed, the pet has a chance to hand you a second copy of that same seed. You paid for one. You received two.

The copy can be any rarity. Epic and Legendary seeds are valid. Seeds sold for the Fall Harvest world are valid too. The roll happens on the purchase, not on harvest, and it does not replace the seed you already bought.

The base chance is 1 percent per Seed Shop buy. That is low. The value is that the extra seed matches what you just spent on, including the rare stock you would rather not buy twice.

Big, Mega, and Rainbow rates

Larger Chocolate Labs copy seeds more often. A Big Chocolate Lab rolls at 2 percent. A Mega Chocolate Lab rolls at 3 percent. Size is the first multiplier that matters.

Rainbow mutation multiplies the duplication chance by 1.25. A Mega Chocolate Lab with Rainbow therefore sits at 3.75 percent. That is the highest combination called out for this pet.

Confirming the hatch and the copy

The hatch worked when the Sugar Egg produces a Chocolate Lab. If you get a different pet, that egg is spent and you need another Sugar Egg from the Baker NPC.

The ability worked when a Seed Shop purchase grants two of the same seed. If you only received the one you paid for, the 1 to 3.75 percent roll simply missed. That is the expected miss most of the time.

Two things will not trigger it. Searching the map will never spawn a Chocolate Lab. Seeds that did not come from a Seed Shop purchase do not get the copy roll. Keep the pet active in your garden while you buy, and spend the Muffin Bake window on Rainbow Muffins if you still need eggs.
