The images spread quickly on X, were deleted shortly afterward, and left behind a lot of speculation about a physical disc, a premium price tag, and a second wave of pre-orders.
Quick answer: There is no Collector’s Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI to pre-order. Rockstar sells exactly two versions — the $79.99 Standard Edition and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition — and the physical box contains a download code, not a disc. Any listing calling itself an official Collector’s Edition is unofficial.

Ordering before November 20 also adds the Vintage Vice City Pack at no extra cost, and Standard buyers can move up to the Ultimate Edition later. Both tiers, along with the code-in-box shipping details, live on the Rockstar Store.
Note: the physical box exists purely so buyers have something to hand over at a checkout counter. The disc slot is empty by design, and Sony is winding down disc production across PlayStation anyway.
What the leaked Vice City: Leonida box actually shows
The photos came from an X account operating under the handle @Alexi0982, whose owner claimed to work at Unique Services Group Mexico, a printing and packaging firm. Two pictures showed stacks of plain black boxes in what looked like a warehouse, with “Vice City: Leonida” printed across the top and the game’s Roman-numeral logo on the sides.
The poster said the packaging was larger than the carton a PlayStation 5 ships in, that it had multiple internal compartments, and that one of them was a circular recess where a disc could sit. He also said he had spent time working on the box design, insisted the pictures were genuine, and referenced the legal pressure Take-Two has been applying to leakers before pulling the images down.
He later walked back the disc claim himself, which is the single biggest reason to treat the whole thing carefully. A circular cutout in a foam or card insert can hold a coin, a badge, or a SteelBook spindle just as easily as a Blu-ray.
Why a press kit is the more likely explanation
Publishers routinely commission oversized branded boxes for influencer and press mailers ahead of a launch. Those kits look exactly like this — unbranded black stock, a logo, a game title, compartments for miscellaneous items — and they are printed in far smaller runs than a retail product would need.
Rockstar has also spent months marketing this game without ever mentioning a third tier. The Netflix Extended Look trailer came and went with no reference to one, and the marketing push since has focused on hardware tie-ins, including a limited edition PS5 controller. Treat it as a ballpark for what a premium Rockstar box has historically cost, nothing more.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the launch would carry a “big physical component,” and the company has confirmed the Ultimate Edition is leading pre-order sales despite its higher price. Neither statement mentions a Collector’s Edition or a price for one.
The six-edition rumor from May never happened
This is not the first Collector’s Edition rumor of the year. In May, ahead of pre-orders opening, leaker DetectiveSeeds claimed the game would launch with six purchase options — three conventional digital and physical tiers, one rarer edition “with some stuff,” and two PS5 console bundles carrying download codes rather than discs.
What actually shipped was two editions. That track record is worth keeping in mind, because the current leak is arriving through a similar channel and making a similar promise.
What Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 box tells you
Rockstar does know how to make a collector’s package. The Collector’s Box for Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 shipped with a metal lockbox, a coin, a treasure map, playing cards, a puzzle, and other trinkets.
Crucially, it contained no disc and no digital code. You bought the game separately. If a GTA VI box does surface, that is the precedent it is most likely to follow, which makes the “locked disc” theory harder to believe than it first sounds.
