Halloween: The Game: How to Complete the Eric Shelf Kill Challenge

Get Eric to a full stalk, drag him into the stockroom, and finish him at the blue toolbox to unlock the reward.

Get Eric to a full stalk, drag him into the stockroom, and finish him at the blue toolbox to unlock the reward.

The Eric shelf kill is one of the six Chapter 2 challenges in Halloween: The Game, and it asks for a very specific finish. You have to execute Eric, the hardware store worker, using the shelf kill inside the store’s stockroom. Doing it correctly rewards extra clothing and hairstyles for civilians in multiplayer, plus personalization options for your profile.

Quick answer: Grab the mask, raise Eric to Stalk Level 3 with Killer Sense, then carry him into the storeroom and trigger the shelf kill at the tall blue toolbox on the left. Press F (keyboard) or LT (controller) to perform it, then finish the chapter to bank the reward.

What the Eric shelf kill challenge requires

This challenge lives at the very start of Chapter 2, Main Street. You begin outside the hardware store’s back alley, and Eric is inside closing up alone. The challenge only counts if the killing blow uses the shelf kill in the stockroom, not any other environmental execution or a plain grab kill.

Because the required spot is fixed to one location, keep Eric alive until you reach it. Killer Sense will highlight other execution points with skull icons around the store, but none of those count for this challenge.

Get inside and pick up the mask

Approach the back alley of the hardware store. A prompt appears explaining Shape Jump, which lets you pass through doors. Press Q to phase through. Note that this only works on doors without a light on them; a lit doorway blocks the ability.
Once inside, head to the mask across from the register and interact with it. A cutscene plays where Michael puts on the mask and picks up the largest kitchen knife from a nearby shelf. When it ends, you are placed outside the storeroom.

Raise Eric to Stalk Level 3 with Killer Sense

A higher stalk level makes Eric easier to chase and hold, lets you track him, and opens up different kill areas, including the shelf spot you need. Aim for the full third level before you grab him.

Enter Killer Sense by pressing R on the keyboard or pressing down on the right stick. Keep your view on Eric to build the stalk score.
As you watch him, black and red circles appear. Center your circle on Eric so he turns white and starts to crack, which raises the score faster.
Check the diamond above his head. When it shows three tallies, he is at Stalk Level 3 and ready to grab.

Drag Eric to the shelf and trigger the kill

Grab Eric and take him back into the storeroom you were watching him from. He will likely struggle on the way. To keep hold of him, stop the holding spinner in the blue or green zone when it appears. If he breaks free, grab him again quickly.
Look for the tall blue toolbox with cabinets on the left side of the room. This is the shelf kill location. Bring Eric here and press F on the keyboard or hold LT on the controller to perform the specialty kill.

Note: The location, the target, and the specific interaction all have to line up. Using a different environmental kill or finishing Eric anywhere else removes the target without satisfying the challenge.

Confirm the reward

Performing the shelf kill is only part of it. To actually receive the challenge reward, you must finish the chapter. Completing the level banks the unlock, adding the new civilian clothing and hairstyles along with the profile personalization options.

If Eric dies before you reach the toolbox and you are only a few minutes into the chapter, restarting is the fastest fix, since his required state cannot come back once he is gone. If your other Main Street objectives are already done, push through and finish the run instead.
