Vehicles were built into Halloween: The Game as an escape tool for the residents of Haddonfield. Then IllFonic handed the keys to the killer as well. Michael Myers can climb into a car, drive it through the neighborhood, and use two tons of 1978 sedan as a murder weapon — a capability the studio confirmed after months of fan questions about whether The Shape would be stuck on foot.
Quick answer: Michael can enter and drive cars in Haddonfield, and running a survivor down is an instant kill — the victim dies on impact and the kill posts to the on-screen death feed immediately.
Michael Myers driving in Halloween: The Game, explained
The multiplayer mode is one-versus-four. One player is Michael, four players are civilians trying to warn neighbors, scavenge supplies, guide NPCs to safety, and reach the police before the clock runs out. Cars sit in that survival loop as a way to cover ground and get out of town.
Michael using them too is a straight lift from the source material. He takes Dr. Loomis’ station wagon after escaping Smith’s Grove in the 1978 film and drives it to Haddonfield to stalk Laurie Strode, so a driving Shape is not a gameplay liberty — it is the character behaving the way he does on screen.
| Detail | What applies |
|---|---|
| Who can drive | Both civilian players and Michael Myers |
| Vehicle type seen | Standard period sedan parked on the street |
| Result of a direct hit | Instant kill on the survivor struck |
| After the kill | Michael exits the vehicle and continues on foot |
| Other Michael mobility | Shape Jump, his traversal ability for repositioning |

Getting clipped by Michael’s car is not a downed state you can be picked up from. Gameplay footage shows him pulling a parked sedan forward into a moving target and killing the player outright on contact. There is no health check, no crawl, no revive window.
Verification is simple. The moment the bumper connects, the standard kill notification fires at the top of the screen with the victim’s name attached, in the same format used for every other elimination in a match.

Bicycles are the worst place to be when Michael is driving
Bikes are the other half of the problem. Civilians can ride them, and a second player can ride along by standing on the front handlebars, which turns one bicycle into two bodies moving on a fixed line down the middle of an open street.

That predictability is the danger. A bike commits you to a road, at speed, in a straight line — exactly the conditions a driver needs. Cutting between houses, fences, and yards where a car cannot follow is the practical counterplay.

Single-player and multiplayer: What IllFonic has confirmed
The studio answered the driving question during a developer stream, where lead developer Jordan Mathewson responded by showing a short clip of Michael behind the wheel of a moving car. What that clip did not settle was scope. It was not stated whether driving belongs only to the six-chapter single-player campaign, which is played entirely from Michael’s perspective, or whether it carries into public multiplayer matches.
Note: the campaign is designed to teach the mechanics used in multiplayer, and it includes open stretches where Michael can roam the map between kills. That overlap is why the two modes are hard to tell apart in isolated clips.
How driving fits Michael’s kit against grouped survivors
IllFonic has been open about the “bully squad” problem, where coordinated survivors gang up to harass the killer. Mathewson called it unavoidable but said the design goal is that no one playing Michael feels afraid to walk into a group.
To that end, Michael gets abilities that function as an escape valve, including a way to rise after being knocked down. Players who down him and immediately leave are far safer than players who stay and press the attack. Beating him outright requires meeting specific conditions — completing a minigame while an authority figure such as a police officer or Dr. Loomis is present — and the studio has described that attempt as risky and easy to botch.

The game is set in Haddonfield on Halloween night in 1978 and was built as a period piece, with visual style, dialogue, and in-game technology limited to what existed at the time. John Carpenter and franchise producer Malek Akkad worked with the development team. Ten playable heroes are available at launch, alongside proximity voice chat, cross-play, and weather effects such as rain and wind.
A killer who drives changes the arithmetic of every open street. Headlights approaching in the dark stop being a rescue and start being a coin flip, and the fastest route out of Haddonfield is now also the one that leaves you nowhere to dodge.
