How mastery and awakenings work in Haze Seas — skill unlock thresholds, how to awaken every fruit at the Poneglyph, and all the materials each awakening needs.

Haze Seas Poneglyph

Progression in Haze Seas runs on two connected systems: Mastery, which unlocks the skills on your fruits, swords and fighting styles, and Awakenings, the endgame power spikes that transform certain fruits entirely. This guide explains how mastery works, the skill-unlock key thresholds, how to awaken a fruit at the Poneglyph, and which materials each awakening needs.

How the Mastery System Works

Every fighting style, sword and Devil Fruit has its own mastery level, and your first skill is unlocked for free at 0 mastery. To unlock the rest, you raise that item’s mastery and earn each additional skill at set thresholds — 25, 50, 75, 100, and so on. Each skill is bound to a specific key.

Skill Unlock Key & Mastery Thresholds

KeyMastery Required
Z + FFree (0 mastery)
X25 Mastery
C50 Mastery
V75 Mastery
B100 Mastery
E125 Mastery
N150 Mastery (currently only Gum & Dragon)
P175 Mastery (currently only Gum)

Mastery caps at 500, and every 2 mastery levels adds +1 point to that item’s combat stat, up to a maximum of 250 points. This means grinding mastery not only unlocks moves but also makes each fruit, sword or style hit noticeably harder.

How to Gain Mastery EXP

Mastery EXP is earned by using the skill against different targets. Tougher targets give far more EXP, so fighting bosses is dramatically faster than farming small enemies:

SourceMastery EXP
M1s (basic hits)0.1 EXP
Skills1 EXP
NPCs2 EXP
Bosses10 EXP
Superbosses150 EXP

One catch: if an NPC, boss or superboss is more than 200 levels above you, you only gain 0.2x EXP from it, so try to fight enemies near your own level for efficient grinding.

Mastery Titles

Maxing out mastery rewards you with prestige titles. You’ll earn one for maxing any single item, and higher ones for maxing five:

TitleRequirement
Edge SovereignMax mastery on any sword
Archon of PowerMax mastery on any fruit
Supreme BrawlerMax mastery on any fighting style
Warlord of BladesMax mastery on at least 5 swords
Harbinger of PowerMax mastery on at least 5 fruits
Avatar of CombatMax mastery on at least 5 fighting styles

How Awakenings Work

Haze Seas Poneglyph awakening

Awakening is the endgame upgrade for fruits that have an awakening path. To awaken one, you must reach 300+ mastery on that fruit and obtain a specific material tied to it, then talk to the Poneglyph to perform the awakening. Awakening a fruit unlocks its most powerful form and new abilities.

All Fruit Awakenings & Required Materials

Each awakening needs its own material, most of which drop from a specific superboss. Here’s every awakening path currently on the board (some tied to unreleased bosses):

AwakeningRequired MaterialSource
Gear 4 (G4)Haki BookSea 1 G4 Boss
Gear 5 (G5)Drums of LiberationSea 2 Dragon Boss
ElectricityRaijin CoreSea 3 Raijin Boss (unreleased)
Dragon HybridDragon’s HeartSea 3 Hybrid Boss (unreleased)
VenomHydra Venom CoreSea 2 Venom Boss (2.5% drop, unreleased)

Awakening the Gum fruit’s Gear forms is a standout goal: awakening G4 grants the Gear 4th title, and fully awakening G5 grants the coveted Joyboy title. Fully awakening the Electricity fruit earns God of Thunder.

Key Awakening & Endgame Materials

Beyond fruit awakenings, Haze Seas has a set of rare materials that unlock the game’s strongest upgrades. Most are guaranteed superboss drops, while a few are craftable. Here are the highest-value ones to chase:

Awakening & Mastery Tips

The fastest way to build mastery is to fight bosses and superbosses rather than grinding small NPCs, since a single superboss hit is worth 150 mastery EXP versus 0.1 for a basic attack. Keep your target within about 200 levels of yourself to avoid the reduced-EXP penalty.

Plan your awakening around a single fruit at a time: get it to 300 mastery, then farm the specific boss that drops its material. Because materials like the Drums of Liberation and Raijin Core are guaranteed drops, the main time investment is reaching the boss and the mastery threshold rather than fighting drop-rate RNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you awaken a fruit in Haze Seas?

Reach 300+ mastery on the fruit, obtain its specific awakening material (usually a superboss drop), and then talk to the Poneglyph to perform the awakening.

What mastery level do you need to awaken?

You need at least 300 mastery on the fruit you want to awaken, in addition to its required material. Mastery caps at 500 overall.

How do you unlock all skills on a fruit or sword?

Skills unlock at set mastery thresholds — 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and higher — each bound to a key (Z/F, X, C, V, B, E, and so on). You raise mastery by using the item in combat, especially against bosses.

What awakening gives the Joyboy title?

Fully awakening Gear 5 (G5) on the Gum fruit grants the Joyboy title. It requires the Drums of Liberation material from the Sea 2 Dragon Boss.
