Heavyweight Fishing: How to Get All Four New Skills and the New Character

Every fixed drop source for the new skills, the Orb rule that matters, and a progression order that avoids wasted resources.

Every fixed drop source for the new skills, the Orb rule that matters, and a progression order that avoids wasted resources.

The latest stretch of content in Heavyweight Fishing adds a new island, two bosses, four skills with fixed sources, a new playable character, and the Orb system. The important part is that none of the four skills come from a banner roll. Each one has a guaranteed source, so the only thing standing between you and a full new skill set is the order you do things in.

Quick answer: Beat the Mountain Dragon Whale to get Pacifies the Clouds. The new character unlocks automatically the moment that skill lands in your inventory — it cannot be bought or summoned.

What the update adds

Five things changed, and only three of them affect your build. The rest is cosmetic or quality-of-life.

AdditionWhat it means for you
New islandHome to the new bosses and quest NPCs; set a spawn point on arrival
Mountain Dragon WhaleBoss that drops Pacifies the Clouds
Golden Dragon FishSecond boss encounter on the new island
Four new skillsAll fixed-source; no banner rolls needed
New characterUnlocks on obtaining Pacifies the Clouds; levelled via The Shadow
OrbsPassive stat boosts tied to specific skill families
Rod skinsCosmetic only — no change to Power or Luck

Set your spawn point the moment you reach the new island

This is the single cheapest mistake to avoid. Boss fights on the new island can kill you, and without a local spawn point you get sent back and have to make the full trip again. Set the spawn as soon as you land, before you fish, before you talk to anyone, before you engage either boss.

Note: Auto Fishing stays locked until Level 100, so everything before that point is manual. Plan your grind around that rather than expecting the island to carry you.

Where each of the four new skills comes from

Every one of the new skills has a guaranteed source. There is no reason to burn Tickets on summons hoping to pull them.

SkillHow you get it
Pacifies the CloudsDrops from the Mountain Dragon Whale boss
Six Vein Divine HawkGiven by the NPC Dumb Guy
Path of Heaven BreakReward from the Dawan Gan questline
Heaven Earth Conference Beheading CastReward from the Dawan Gan questline

Because two of the four come from the same questline, Dawan Gan is worth completing in one sitting. Interact with NPCs using E, and keep in mind that skills fire from the Z, X, C and V keys — you will want a boss-ready loadout equipped before you take on the Mountain Dragon Whale, not after.

How to unlock the new character

Build a loadout that can survive a boss fight. Equip your strongest skills and your best rod before you travel, since the Mountain Dragon Whale is the gate for everything that follows.
Defeat the Mountain Dragon Whale on the new island. This is the only source of Pacifies the Clouds, so the fight is mandatory rather than optional.
Check your inventory for Pacifies the Clouds. Once the skill is in your possession, the new character is granted automatically — there is no purchase, no summon, and no separate quest to hand in.

Open the Character tab to confirm the new character is listed, then take it to The Shadow. That NPC handles character levelling, so the unlock is only the starting point.

Orbs: match them to your skill family or they do nothing

Orbs are passive build items. Each one boosts a specific skill family, and the boost only applies if the skills you actually have equipped belong to that family. Slotting a strong-sounding Orb next to a mismatched loadout gives you no benefit at all, which is why Orbs are worth picking after you have settled on which of the four new skills you intend to main.

Rod skins, Tickets, Crystals and Trait Rerolls

The reworked rod models are appearance changes. A skin does not raise the rod’s base Power or Luck, so swapping one on will not help you land a heavier fish or clear a boss faster. Treat it as free presentation and nothing else.

Tickets, Crystals and Trait Rerolls are the three currencies worth protecting. Tickets go into summons, Crystals into luck and shop purchases, and Trait Rerolls into rerolling the passive buffs on rods and skills. Since the four new skills have fixed sources, save the Tickets for banner pulls you cannot obtain any other way.

The progression order that wastes the least

Claim your milestone rewards first, since several require Level 20, 50, 100 or 200 and the payouts feed directly into the steps below.
Travel to the new island and set your spawn point immediately.
Prepare a boss-ready skill build, then take down the Mountain Dragon Whale and collect Pacifies the Clouds. The new character arrives with it.
Pick up Six Vein Divine Hawk from Dumb Guy, then run the Dawan Gan questline to the end for Path of Heaven Break and Heaven Earth Conference Beheading Cast.
Decide which skill family you are building around, equip a matching Orb, and take the new character to The Shadow to start levelling it.

Mistakes that cost you resources

  • Spending Tickets on summons trying to pull the four new skills, all of which are guaranteed elsewhere.
  • Reaching the new island and starting a boss fight before setting a spawn point.
  • Equipping an Orb that does not match the skill family you actually use.
  • Buying a rod skin expecting a Power or Luck increase.
  • Unlocking the new character and leaving it unlevelled instead of visiting The Shadow.

The whole update rewards patience over spending. Clear the Mountain Dragon Whale once and the new character, the headline skill and the Orb decision all fall into place in sequence — the only currency you really need to spend is time on the boss fight itself.
