Holofoil Sprites in Fortnite: What They Do and How to Get Them

The rarest Sprite variant arrives July 9, boosting your squad’s odds of finding more rare Sprites.

Holofoil Sprites are the newest and rarest variant of Fortnite’s Sprite collectibles, adding a shiny redesign on top of every existing Sprite. They keep each Sprite’s normal ability but layer on a rarity bonus that helps your whole squad find more rare Sprites while you carry one.

Quick answer: Holofoil Sprites go live on July 9. Each one drops from the same spot as its base version, and holding a Holofoil gives your entire squad a 5% higher chance to find rare Sprite Variants from chests.

Holofoil Sprites release date

Holofoil variant Sprites are scheduled to arrive on Thursday, July 9, landing as part of a Fortnite update day. The same update is expected to add fresh Sprites to the pool, including a Batman Sprite.

A small number of players briefly saw these Sprites before launch. A Sprite Hunt rift anomaly was switched on by mistake with the unreleased variants inside it, so a few Holofoil and Gem Sprites were collected early. Epic disabled that anomaly and locked the early pickups. If you grabbed one ahead of time, it sits disabled in your inventory and cannot be brought into a match or resummoned until the variant officially releases, at which point it returns automatically.

What Holofoil Sprites do

Every Holofoil Sprite keeps the ability of its base Sprite. The Zero Point Sprite still gives shield bubbles, the Grim Reaper Sprite still marks enemies, and so on. The Holofoil rarity stacks an extra effect on top of that ability.

That effect is a 5% chance for your squad to find rare Sprite Variants when looting chests. The bonus applies to your whole team, so a full squad each carrying a Holofoil can push the combined odds of finding rare Sprites much higher. Since some Sprites spawn at very low rates, running a Holofoil is one of the more efficient ways to hunt for the rarer variants.

Note: The trade-off for carrying a valuable Sprite is that other players in the lobby can come after you to take it, so expect more attention once one is in your bag.

How to get every Holofoil Sprite

Each Holofoil Sprite drops from the exact same source as its base version. If the standard Striker Sprite comes from scoring at a soccer pitch, the Holofoil Striker Sprite appears there too. The catch is the lower spawn rate, which makes these the hardest Sprites to track down.

Tip: Weekend Power Hours raise your chance of pulling these rare variants, so timing your hunt around those windows is the fastest route to a first Holofoil. Once you have one, its rarity bonus makes finding additional Holofoils and other rare Sprites easier.

Keeping a Holofoil Sprite after you find it

Finding a Holofoil is only half the job. Because it is a high-value collectible, standing at a normal Extraction Site puts it at risk, since another player can interrupt and take the Sprite before the process finishes.

Use a Portable Extractor instead. It pulls the Sprite from wherever you are standing and completes in about 5 seconds, which greatly reduces the window for someone to steal it. You will know the extraction worked when the Sprite is confirmed as secured to your account rather than remaining in your carried inventory.

With the July 9 launch, Holofoil Sprites become the top target for anyone completing a Sprite collection. Prioritize the low-rate chest Sprites during Power Hours, run a Holofoil once you have one to snowball the rest, and extract carefully so a full lobby of rivals cannot undo the effort.
