Refining Stones are crafting materials in AION 2, and you need the right tier to make the gear you are aiming for. They come in four rarities, and while they drop from a long list of activities, a handful of sources give you far more per hour than grinding random mobs ever will.
Quick answer: Run the Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions when they are up, then Expeditions and Sanctuary Dungeons for steady income. For raw per-kill rates, Draupnir’s Phantasmal Lakshmi and Predator Saraswati drop the common stone at 100%.
The four Refining Stone tiers
Each tier matches a gear rarity, so the one you want depends on what you are crafting. All four can be traded with other players. The required level is the character level needed to use the stone, not to have it drop.

| Stone | Grade | Required level | Sell price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 15 | 16 Kina | |
| Rare | 25 | 160 Kina | |
| Epic | 35 | 1,600 Kina | |
| Unique | 40 | 1,920 Kina |

If stockpiling Refining Stones is the goal, lean on activities that hand them out as structured rewards rather than open-world drops. The table below ranks the practical options.
| Method | Reliability | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shugo Festival | Fastest | Direct stone rewards from the minigames |
| Dimensional Invasion | Fastest | Stones from Monster Cubes after each invasion |
| Expeditions | Reliable | Expedition bosses drop stones |
| Sanctuary Dungeons | Reliable | On par with Expeditions |
| Market | Situational | Buy the exact rarity you need |
| Open-world enemies | Low | Collected while questing |
| Field bosses | Low | Slow to find and fight |
The Shugo Festival is the single quickest tap when it is live. Several of its minigames reward Refining Stones directly, so jump in each time it opens instead of waiting until you run dry. Reaching the top rank and opening every available card nets a stack of crafting materials at once.
Dimensional Invasions keep pace with the festival. After you clear one, the Monster Cubes you pick can contain Refining Stones alongside other rewards, which makes the activity worth running for its own sake even before the stones.
When neither event is active, fall back on Expeditions and Sanctuary Dungeons. Both drop Refining Stones reliably and advance other parts of your character at the same time, so they beat farming ordinary mobs purely for a material. You queue into these from the dungeon menu.

Highest per-kill drop rates for the common stone
If you prefer killing specific enemies, these have the best fixed chances to drop the common Refining Stone. The two Draupnir bosses sit at the top with a guaranteed drop every kill.
| Monster | Drop rate | Location |
|---|---|---|
| 100% | Draupnir: Phantasmal Sky | |
| 100% | Draupnir: Unknown Abyss | |
| 53.7% | Krao Cave: Red Cavity | |
| 53.7% | Krao Cave: Weathered Testing Ground | |
| 53.7% | Urugugu Canyon: Urugugu Village | |
| 53.7% | Urugugu Canyon: Urugugu Village | |
| 53.7% | Fire Temple: Burning Temple | |
| 53.7% | Fire Temple: Burning Temple | |
| 53.7% | Vakron Sky Island: Tiere’s Nest | |
| 53.7% | Vakron Sky Island: Thamon’s Area | |
| 53.7% | Ferocious Horn Den: Fera Surveillance Site | |
| 53.7% | Ferocious Horn Den: Mau’s Resting Place |
Draupnir is an Expedition, so you reach Phantasmal Lakshmi and Predator Saraswati through the Expedition menu rather than by roaming an open zone. Both share three spawn points apiece, which keeps the farm tight.

Across lower Verteron and Altgard, several level 45 to 51 enemies also drop the stone at useful rates. Silent Dartan, Soul Ruler Kashapa and High Commander Lagta all sit at 46.7% at level 48, while Eternal Gartua on Verteron’s Eternal Isle and Immortal Gartua on Altgard’s Immortal Isle match that at level 51. A tier below, Black Tentacle Lawa, Phantasm Kasia, Centurion Demiros, Divine Ansas and Sentinel K’nash each drop it at 38.9% in Verteron.
Where the higher tiers come from
The two Draupnir bosses are also your best open source for the Expert’s Refining Stone. Phantasmal Lakshmi drops it at 71.6% and Predator Saraswati at 69.2%, both in the same spots that give the common stone.
The Artisan’s Ultimate Refining Stone is the rarest and hardest to chase. The strongest chances come again from Draupnir, where Phantasmal Lakshmi drops it at 9.8% and Predator Saraswati at 9.2%. Beyond those, it appears at just 0.45% from a spread of mid-level bosses including Red Spark Ignus, Black Smoke Murute, Enhanced Harcon, Neglected Gadioton, Guardian Captain Raur and Judge Urahum. For this tier, the Market is often the saner route.
The Artisan’s Refining Stone turns up as a guaranteed field-boss drop and inside party dungeons such as Ferocious Horn Den and Vakron Sky Island, so you naturally bank some while clearing those for gear.
Field bosses that guarantee stone drops
Three field bosses drop the common, Expert’s and Artisan’s stones together on every kill. They are the slowest route because you have to locate and down them, but they appear on fixed weekly spawns, so you can plan around them.
| Boss | Level | Location | Spawn (server time) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 65 | Chaotic Lower Reshanta | Sun, Fri 21:00 | |
| 80 | Chaotic Middle Reshanta | Sun, Fri 21:00 | |
| 65 | Chaotic Lower Reshanta | Mon, Thu, Sat 21:30 |
Treat field-boss stones as a bonus for fights you were going to take anyway. Chasing them purely for Refining Stones burns more time than running an Expedition or a Sanctuary.
Buying from the Market
Because every tier can be traded, the Market is the fix when you are short just a few stones of one rarity. You can buy exactly the tier a recipe needs instead of farming and hoping the right one drops. Compare listings before you commit, since player prices swing, and use it for a specific shortage rather than as your default supply.
What Refining Stones are used for
Refining Stones feed directly into crafting weapons, armor and other equipment. The stone’s rarity has to match the gear’s rarity, so a pile of Common stones will not help with an Epic recipe. Collect the tier that fits what you plan to make, and because better gear raises your character’s overall strength, keep a working stock of the rarity you are gearing toward rather than hoarding the lowest tier.
