How to Fish: How to Beat the Albatross, the Fourth Island Boss

The Albatross is the fourth island boss in How to Fish, and it stands out because it is a bird instead of an underwater creature. It never lands, keeps a long distance, and hammers the ground with a poop attack that deals real damage. Beating it comes down to two things, catching the right bait to summon it and using a scoped rifle from cover.

Quick answer: Catch a Tuna with the Professional Boss Lure, drop it on the grass to summon the Albatross, then shoot it with a sniper rifle while stepping into a boathouse or hut to dodge its attacks. Repeat until it drops the Albatross Head in the water.

What you need before the fight

The Albatross flies high and stays far away, so short-range guns like the pistol, SMG, or shotgun will miss most of their shots. A sniper rifle is the clear choice here. You can buy one on the fourth island for $3,800, so save up before you trigger the fight. Add a scope so you can actually track the bird in the air, and each hit lands for roughly 250 damage.

Tip: A red dot marks the point on the Albatross you need to hit. Learn to spot it quickly, because the scope zooms in hard and you have limited windows to fire.

How to summon the Albatross

The Albatross does not appear on its own. You have to bait it with a fresh Tuna, which means clearing a short mini-boss step first.

Equip the Professional Boss Lure and reel in the Tuna. It charges and throws itself at you, so dodge the jump and fire your shotgun, which is the strongest option against it at close range.

After the Tuna is down, pick it up and drop it on the grass near the shore. Wait a couple of seconds and the Albatross swoops in from the sky to take the bait.

How to defeat the Albatross

The whole fight is a rhythm of shoot, then hide, then shoot again. The Albatross either dives at you directly or drops projectiles from above, and both attacks can be avoided entirely by getting indoors. The NPCs on this island stay tucked inside their huts for the same reason.

Use the boathouse or one of the huts as your base. When the Albatross climbs high and starts its projectile barrage, step inside to block the incoming damage.

Once the attack ends, move to the doorway or a window and aim at the bird. The best openings are right after its projectile rain finishes and when it soars back up after a dive.

Line up the red target point in your scope and fire. Each sniper shot deals heavy damage, but the zoom is strong, so time your shot and take it when the bird is steady rather than spraying.

Duck back inside to reload and heal, then repeat the shoot-and-cover loop. Keep chipping the health bar down until the bird finally goes down.

Note: If you do not have a sniper rifle yet, an Uzi can work as a backup because it fires fast enough to land hits at range. The shotgun is not worth using here since the Albatross stays too far away.

How to confirm the kill and claim the reward

When the Albatross dies, you get a “New Creature Caught” prompt for the Albatross along with a large XP payout for the kill. The bird drops the Albatross Head into the water below, so head to the shore and pick it up.

Take the Albatross Head to the NPC who asked you to deal with the bird. In return, you receive a flash drive with the coordinates for the fifth and final island, where the Bowhead Shark waits.

Why the fight fails

Using a short-range gun, the pistol, SMG, or shotgun cannot reliably hit the bird because it flies at a long range.
Standing in the open while it drops projectiles, the falling attack deals heavy damage, so you must be indoors during it.
Missing your shots, the scope’s zoom is large, so untimed shots waste ammo and drag the fight out.
Not summoning the Tuna first, the Albatross only appears after you kill a Tuna and lay it on the grass.

Keep the loop tight, cover during its attacks and precise sniper fire during its openings, and the Albatross falls without much trouble. Grab the head, hand it over, and you are cleared to move on to the volcano island for the final boss.
