A set of users are facing the error “Secure Boot is not enabled on this Machine” when trying to launch some of the games on their PC. While the error is frustrating and might seem like one with no apparent solution, there are a couple of workarounds that you can use to circumvent the problem.

Moreover, the error is more prevalent for games that use the Origin server or which are from EA Games. FIFA 23 players have been plagued by this error the most. While the company is investigating the issue and official support should soon fix the issue, you can follow the methods mentioned below in the meantime to get back to your gaming session.

1. Relaunch the App as an Administrator

Many users were able to resolve the issue on their systems by simply relaunching the game app or the Origin app (if the game uses the Origin server) as an admin. This method is simple, fast, and effective.

First, exit the game/ Origin app and close all the supporting windows as well.

Then, head to the Start Menu and type Origin or the app name to perform a search. After that, right-click on the tile and select the ‘Run as administrator’ option.

Now, a UAC (User Account Control) window will appear on your screen. If you are not logged in with an admin account, enter the credentials for one. Otherwise, click on the ‘Yes’ button to proceed.

This should resolve the issue on your system. In case this method does not work for you, move on to the next one.

2. Reinstall Anti-Cheat on your Computer

A pool of users was also able to resolve the issue by deleting all the Anti-Cheat files from the game installation folder and then letting it reinstall on the next game start-up.

First, open a File Explorer window by either double-clicking on the ‘This PC’ window or by pressing the Windows+E keys together on your keyboard.

Then, type or copy+paste the below-mentioned path and hit Enter to navigate to the directory.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

Now, double-click on the game folder you are facing the error with to continue.

Next, double-click on the _Installer folder.

After that, double-click on the EAAntiCheat.Installer.EXE file to run the program.

Now, select the game you are facing the problem with from the drop-down menu and then click on the ‘Uninstall’ option.

Once you receive the ‘Uninstall Sucess’ message, click on the ‘Install’ button to install the program back on your computer.

Once the ‘Install success’ message is displayed on your screen, close the window and launch the Origin app/ the game app.

3. Make Sure Secure Boot is Enabled

If the above methods did not help you, ensure that Secure Boot functionality is enabled on your device. All you need to do is head to the UEFI settings on your device and make sure the toggle for Secure Boot is on.

First, head to the Start Menu and click on the ‘Settings’ app tile to continue. Alternatively, you can also press the Windows+I keys together on your keyboard to launch the app.

Now, ensure you have selected the ‘System’ tab from the left sidebar.

Then, click on the ‘Recovery’ tab from the right section of the window to continue.

Next, click on the ‘Restart Now’ button present on the ‘Advanced startup’ tile. This will bring an overlay window to your screen.

Now, click on the ‘Restart’ button to immediately restart your system.

Once restarted, you will be taken to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment). Click on the ‘Troubleshoot’ button to proceed.

After that, click on the ‘Advanced Options’ tile to continue.

Next, click on the ‘UEFI Firmware Settings’ option.

After that, click on the ‘Restart’ button displayed on your screen. This will again restart your PC and boot into the BIOS menu.

Note: The BIOS interface may vary by manufacturer. However, the process stays largely similar. The interface showcased below is of an HP device.

After that, click on the ‘Boot Options’ tab from the left sidebar. Then, locate the ‘Secure Boot’ option and click on the following toggle to bring it to the ‘On’ position, if not already turned on. Once done, click the F10 key on your keyboard to save the changes and exit BIOS. Your system will restart again.

After the restart, check if the issue is resolved on your PC.

4. Contact the Official Support

In case none of the above methods work for you, as a last resort, you can report the issue to the game developer using their official support channel.

They will most likely help you by providing a workaround or will make sure they work on an update to resolve the issue if a large number of users have been facing the same same.

The “Secure Boot is not enabled on this machine” error can seem like a man-sized hurdle that you need to cross just to play your favorite game but the solutions aren’t. Hopefully, this guide helps you resolve the issue quickly and get you back to your gaming session.
