How to Get the Grim Reaper Sprite in Fortnite and Where to Find It

Everything you need to farm the Mythic Grim Sprite from Sprite Chests, plus its wall-tracking effect and mastery timings.

The Grim Reaper Sprite is a Mythic companion added in the Chapter 7 Season 3 Part 2 update, and it turns getting shot into a way to fight back. Equip it, take damage, and the player who hit you gets marked through walls for a few seconds. Because it sits at the top of the rarity tier, pulling one is mostly a numbers game, so the fastest path is opening as many Sprite Chests as possible.

Quick answer: Open Sprite Chests to roll the Grim Sprite from the general Sprite loot pool. Break into Vaults for guaranteed chests, then extract the Sprite each match so its mastery progress sticks.

What the Grim Reaper Sprite does

When the Grim Sprite is in your active loadout, and an enemy lands a hit on you, that attacker is instantly marked. Their silhouette shows through solid walls and builds for a short window, so you always know where return fire needs to go. It is the same kind of retaliation-tracking effect Fortnite has used before, and it is strongest against long-range pokes and snipers hiding behind cover.

The trade-off is duration. At its highest level, the marker lasts five seconds, which is plenty for a ranged exchange but tight inside a close shotgun fight. It is a well-balanced pick rather than an overpowered one, and it is still worth carrying over most other Sprites for the information it gives you.

Where to find the Grim Reaper Sprite

There is no special unlock condition like the Striker Sprite has. The Grim Sprite drops straight from the general Sprite loot pool, so the only reliable method is opening Sprite Chests until one appears. Its spawn rate is fairly ordinary compared with the rarest companions, but the pool keeps getting diluted as more Sprites are added, so volume matters.

Prioritize Vaults at the start of a match. These are the most efficient spots for grinding Sprite drops because they reliably hold multiple Sprite Chests.
Pick your Vault tier. A Rare Vault guarantees at least one Sprite Chest, while surviving an Epic Vault lets you crack open three at once for far more rolls per game.
Open every Sprite Chest you reach and keep repeating across matches. Since the drop is random within the pool, more chests directly means more chances at the Grim Sprite.

Boost your odds with Power Hours and Rift Anomalies

If contesting Vaults sends you back to the lobby too often, the map runs timed events that shift the math in your favor. Mastery Mondays, sometimes called Power Hours, raise the chance of Mythic and special Sprites spawning. This window runs every Monday from 9 AM ET for a full 24 hours, so lining up your farming with it is the single easiest way to improve your pull rate.

Watch your HUD for the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly as well. When it triggers, buried Sprite Chests are marked on your map, and digging those up guarantees a Special Sprite drop. That gives you a strong shot at a special Grim variant without pushing into heavily guarded Vaults.

Grim Sprite mastery levels and marker duration

Mastery raises how long an enemy stays marked after they hit you. You gain levels by carrying the Sprite through containers and eliminations, and the progress is permanent as long as you extract the Sprite each game. If you tend to die in the final circle, extract it earlier so the level does not go to waste.

Galaxy, Gummy, and Gold Grim Sprite variants

Beyond the base companion, the Grim Sprite comes in collectible variants such as Galaxy, Gummy, and Gold. These carry the same tracking effect with a different pattern, and some add a minor perk like extra ammo when you loot. They are considerably rarer than the standard version, so the special-Sprite events and Rift Anomalies are the practical way to chase them.

Note: If a rival is carrying a variant you want, you can also trade for it or take it by eliminating them before they extract. Sprite hunting has become its own layer of play, and other players will contest you the moment they know you are holding something rare.

How to confirm it worked

You will know you pulled the Grim Sprite when it appears in your loadout as a Mythic-rarity companion. To lock in mastery gains, extract the Sprite before the match ends so it is banked for next time. The most common way progress disappears is dying with the Sprite still equipped in the final circle, so extract early whenever a fight looks risky.

With the effect active, drop into an early Vault, farm chests through the Monday window, and you will have a companion that punishes anyone who takes a shot at you from cover.
