Meta-owned Whatsapp has been among the most popular messaging apps ever since its launch and continues to remain so. There are several reasons for this – the app offers secure messaging, can be used on different platforms, and constantly adds new features that improve the user experience.

One new feature that was recently announced is the pinning of multiple messages. Users can now pin up to three messages in a chat for quick access. Earlier, you could only pin one message when chatting with others or in a group. When more than one message is pinned in the chat, the banner will show many messages are pinned. The feature is being rolled out at the time of this writing and might take a few days to get to you, though.

Pinning messages is quite easy, and you can do so in the following manner. You can pin different types of messages in WhatsApp, including polls, images, and text messages, so they appear on top, allowing you to access them quickly.

To pin messages in a WhatsApp chat, follow these steps:

  1. Launch WhatsApp on your device and tap on the name of the person/ group whose messages you want to pin to open the chat.
  2. Tap and hold the message you want to pin to select it.
  3. Then, tap on the three dots on the right side to access additional options.
  1. Next, tap on the 'Pin' option to pin the message.
  2. When you pin a message, Whatsapp will allow you to choose the duration for which the message will remain pinned. In the pop-up that appears, tap on your preferred choice; you can pin a message for 24 hours, seven days, or 30 days.
  3. Finally, tap on the 'Pin' option again to pin the message.
  1. You will see the pinned message at the top, and the message "You pinned a message" will appear at the bottom of the chat, which will also be visible to the other person (or persons in a group chat).
  2. Tap on the message in the banner to navigate to the message in the chat. Alternatively, tap and hold it to get the option to 'Unpin' it.

Similarly, you can pin up to two more messages in a chat with the new update.

Note: Currently, you cannot pin a message for an indefinite time. The maximum duration is 30 days, after which you will need to pin it again.

Being able to pin your Whatsapp messages allows you to access important texts, images, or videos quickly. The process of pinning and unpinning messages is also quite simple and only takes a few seconds, so you can change which messages should stay at the top depending on their relevance.

In case you want to save a message indefinitely, you can consider starring it. Unlike pinned messages, which only stay at the top for a maximum of 30 days at a time, starred messages are saved permanently.
