How to Reset the Skill Tree in VV: Ultimatum

Every way to refund skill points, from the free pre-level 20 wipe to crafted resets and Hogyoku wishes.

Every way to refund skill points, from the free pre-level 20 wipe to crafted resets and Hogyoku wishes.

Skill points in VV: Ultimatum lock you into a combat path the moment you spend them across the M-menu trees like Hakuda, Speed, Kido, and the race-locked routes. If you mapped points to nodes that no longer fit your playstyle, you have a few concrete ways to refund them. Which one you use depends entirely on your character level and what you have crafted.

Quick answer: Under level 20, use the one free full reset from the character menu to refund every skill point at once. After level 20, reach level 70 and craft a build reset item from boss drops, or craft a Hogyoku and select wish #7 to refund toolbar skills.

The three ways to reset your skill tree

A skill tree reset refunds the skill points spent on nodes inside the M-menu trees. There are three methods, and they are not interchangeable. The free reset is gated to early characters, the crafted reset is a full late-game wipe, and the Hogyoku wish only clears your equipped toolbar.

MethodRequirementWhat it refunds
Free full resetUnder level 20Entire skill tree, build points, and attributes
Crafted build resetLevel 70 plus boss materialsEvery skill point and node unlock (full wipe)
Hogyoku wish #7Crafted HogyokuEquipped toolbar skills only, not all nodes

Method 1: Free reset before level 20

VV: Ultimatum grants exactly one free full reset, and it is only available while your character is below level 20. This single use wipes everything at once, including your skill tree choices, your passive build points, and your attribute allocation. If your build feels wrong in the first hours, spend it immediately rather than grinding toward 70.

Confirm your character is still under level 20. Once you cross that threshold, the free option disappears permanently.
Open the character menu and use the free reset. It refunds all skill points along with stats and build points in a single action.
Re-spend your points along your planned path. The reset confirms by clearing every node so you can reallocate from scratch.

Note: Most build mistakes happen early, which is exactly why this reset exists. After level 20, fixing the same mistake becomes a significant boss-farming grind.

Method 2: Crafted build reset at level 70

Once you pass level 20 without using the free reset, the only way to fully wipe your skill tree is to reach level 70 and craft a build reset item. There is no shortcut around the level requirement. The materials drop from bosses, including Crocodile Scales and Flame from a Hueco Mundo boss.

Level your character to 70. The crafted reset is locked until you hit that level.
Farm the required boss drops. Hueco Mundo bosses supply the key materials for the reset item.
Craft the build reset item, then use it from your inventory. This produces a complete wipe that removes every skill point and node unlock.

Method 3: Hogyoku wish #7 (toolbar refund)

The Hogyoku is a late-game crafted item that opens seven wish options. Wish #7 refunds all of your equipped toolbar skills, giving you a clean slate to re-assign abilities. This is the most targeted option, but it has a hard limit. It does not refund every node in your skill trees, so pair it with a full reset if you want a complete respec.

Farm Hogyoku Shards from high-difficulty mission chests. Higher mission tiers improve the drop rate, and Rift chests offer the best shard chances in the game. The tutorial boss Gelum also drops a Hogyoku fragment for early stock.
Forge a Hogyoku at a crafting station once you have enough shards.
Use the Hogyoku and select wish #7, “I want to refund all of my skills,” to clear your toolbar abilities.

If your problem is misallocated passive stats rather than skill nodes, wish #1 (“I want to relocate my build points”) refunds attribute and build points without touching your skill tree. The full list of wishes covers build point relocation, seven experimental shards for weapon-form rerolls, seven ability rolls, roughly 5,000 tokens, a Hollow trait reroll, ultimate mastery on one technique, and the toolbar refund.

Skill essences are never refunded

This is the single most important warning before you reset. Resetting skill points never returns consumed skill essences such as Grand Ray Cero or Kurikara. No matter which method you use, those rare essences are gone once spent.

To avoid losing them, only reset before you invest rare essences. If you want to move through unwanted nodes without permanently keeping them, use the Shrine Refund nodes to pass through and skip those abilities instead. The skill refund shrine itself is unlocked by completing the early Statue Mystery Quest tied to Humble Beginnings, which gives you a free way to redistribute allocated skill points without spending Robux.

How to confirm the reset worked

Open the M-menu skill trees after using any reset. A successful refund shows your spent nodes cleared and your skill points returned to the available pool, ready to re-allocate. With the Hogyoku toolbar refund, your equipped abilities slots will be emptied so you can re-select them.

If points did not return as expected, the usual reasons are straightforward. The free reset only works under level 20, the crafted reset only works once you reach level 70 with the correct boss materials, and wish #7 clears the toolbar rather than every node. Match the method to your level and your goal, and plan your re-spend before you start so you do not burn a costly reset twice.
