Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of us are either working or learning from home. Google Meet has been one of the most popular teleconferencing apps in use, partly due to the features it offers and partly due to the level of security Google offers.
But those are not the only factors in play here that have led to the immense popularity for the tech giant. People may have come for Google, but many stayed due to the Google Meet Chrome extensions available in the Chrome Web Store that enhance the Google Meet experience to that of many other apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
And although Google has started bringing highly in-demand features like Tile view, Low light mode, Noise cancellation, etc. to Google Meet, there’s still a long way to go. But in the meanwhile, there’s always some Chrome extension to do the work.
One such extension that’ll change your meeting experience in Google Meet is ‘Tactiq Pins for Google Meet’. Tactiq transcribes your entire Meeting so your focus can stay on being present in the meeting instead of taking notes. You can use it for office meetings, or students can use it to transcribe lectures.
Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Tactiq, or open the extension by clicking here. Then, click on the ‘Add to Chrome’ button to install the extension in your Chrome browser.
A confirmation dialog box will appear on your screen. Click on the ‘Add extension’ button to install it. The extension will install and its icon will appear on the right side of your address bar.
Now, go to meet.google.com. The icon for the extension will turn active. Click on it and sign in to your Google account to use the extension.
Choose your Google account, and then permit it to access your account by clicking on ‘Allow’. Now, it will be ready to use in all your future meetings on Google Meet.
How to Use Tactiq on Google Meet
When you join a meeting on Google Meet, the extension window will automatically start and appear on the meeting screen. You can adjust the position of the window anywhere on the screen.
Click on ‘Turn on captions’ on the bottom right corner of the meeting screen. Tactiq can transcribe only when the captions are on.
Tactiq will transcribe every conversation and you will be able to see them on the extension window. Click on an important conversation block to pin it. Pinned conversations can be found easily in the transcription document.
After the meeting, you can export the transcript and save it to your clipboard, or as a text file, to your Google Drive, or Tactiqs meetings. You can use either option. Click on the extension icon on the address bar to export the transcript. It will show ‘Transcript is ready’. Click on the ‘Export Format’ option to expand the drop-down menu and select your preferred option.
Personally, Google Doc seemed like the best option to us. The transcripts will be saved as a Google Doc to the Google account you used to log in to the extension.
But Tactiq meetings is also a great place to store all your transcripts in one place. To get started with Tactiq meetings, you will have to sign in. If you have never used it before, selecting ‘Tactiq’ from the drop-down menu will display the message ‘You don’t have any meeting hub’. Click on the ‘Create’ option underneath it.
It will redirect you to the Tactiq Meetings page. Sign in using your Google account, and then click on the ‘+’ icon to create a meeting hub.
After you’ve created it, go back to Google Meet, and export your transcript to Tactiq Meetings.
All your transcripts will be available in the hub you send them to.
Tactiq Pins for Google Meet is an intuitive and brilliant Chrome extension that you must add to your Chrome browser and never again worry about taking notes in the meeting. All your focus can instead go to participating in the meeting.
