Recently, Google has made Google Meet free for anyone with a Google account. Since that time, a lot of people are using Meet to communicate business stuff as well as teach and learn online, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As it allows up to 100 people (on a free account) to participate in a meeting, it is ideal for hosting online classes, business meetings or even to celebrate virtual birthday parties.

It doesn’t really matter whether you are a host or a participant in a meeting, still Google Meet allows you to control your video settings with a single click.

Turn Off Camera During a Meeting

Do you need to switch off your video during an on-going meeting on Google Meet? Just click ‘Camera’ icon located at the bottom on the call toolbar to toggle your video On/Off. You could also use the CTRL + E shortcut to quickly toggle camera On/Off. In case you don’t see the call toolbar, just move your mouse anywhere on the meeting screen and it’ll show at the bottom of the meeting screen.

Turn Off Camera Before Joining a Meeting

Google Meet also provides an option to turn off your camera before creating a new meeting or joining an existing one.

On your browser, navigate to meet.google.com and login to your Google account. Now, if you need to start a new meeting, click ‘Start a meeting’. Or if you need to join an ongoing meeting, enter the meeting code and click the ‘Join’ button on the page.

Then, on the Google Meet joining screen, click the ‘Camera’ icon located at the bottom on the call toolbar to toggle your video On/Off. You could also use the CTRL + E shortcut to quickly turn camera On and Off.

Whenever it is not required to show your face in a meeting, you can use either of the above methods to turn off your camera on Google Meet.
