Weapons in Legacy Piece move fast. Each update drops a new blade that outscales the last one, and the gap between a mid-game sword and a current meta pick is wide enough to change how boss runs and duels play out. The rankings below reflect the roster as it stands after Update 1.9, which arrived on August 28, 2026.
Quick answer: Undyne is the strongest weapon in the game right now because its Determination mode stacks a damage buff, a damage reduction buff, and access to large nukes. If you can’t get it, Solemn Lament or True Zangetsu (Bankai) will keep you competitive in every mode.
Legacy Piece weapon tier list (September 2026)
| Tier | Weapons |
|---|---|
| SSS | Undyne |
| S | Solemn Lament, True Zangetsu (Bankai), White Reaper, Acherin |
| A | Geburo, Chihora, Cursed Love |
| B | The Black Knight, Lightspeed Ninja, The Mindmaster, War General |
| C | First Espada, Thunder, Jitte, Bisento |
| D | Base Zangetsu (Shikai), Night Blade, Ace, Saber, Katana, Iron Cutlass, Dual Cutlass, Buggy’s Knife, Kiribachi |

Placements weigh raw damage and burst most heavily, then uptime, support effects, and defense penetration, and finally reach, crowd control, mobility, and how consistently a kit performs when a rotation gets interrupted. How hard a weapon is to farm or buy doesn’t move it up or down.

Undyne’s base moveset already trades blows with the S-tier group, but the separation comes from Determination mode. Turning it on raises your damage, cuts incoming damage, and unlocks nukes that no other weapon matches in a single window. The damage reduction is the part that matters most in PvP, since it lets you sit inside a fight instead of trading and retreating.
Cast speed helps too. The spear summons go out quickly, so the kit doesn’t leave you locked in a long animation while an opponent resets. Undyne is an endgame target rather than a first purchase, though, and it only pays off once you know the mode’s timing.
S-tier swords and what each one is for
These four are close enough that matchup and mastery can flip the order. Pick the one that covers the hole in your build.
| Weapon | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Solemn Lament | Top-five DPS overall, with shields and extra damage buffs from its passive plus defense penetration that cuts through tanky specs | You need a build that can use the whole utility package, not just the damage |
| True Zangetsu (Bankai) | AoE burst for waves and a single-target nuke for bosses and duels; a clean V2 upgrade over the base blade | Burst timing matters more in drawn-out fights |
| White Reaper | Meta-level damage that competes with the strongest styles | Its jump move is awkward to fit into a smooth rotation |
| Acherin | True damage, resistance reduction, damage-over-time effects, and a mobility move for PvP | Sits at the lower end of the meta after recent power creep |
Solemn Lament’s defense penetration is worth calling out separately. It’s the answer to durable specs like Undyne, where a pure damage weapon stalls out against damage reduction.
A-tier: strong damage plus support value
Geburo has been power crept, but it still hits hard through the mid and late game and carries passive damage buffs alongside a lifesteal effect. That combination makes it a good off-weapon even if it isn’t your main damage source.
Chihora lands in a similar spot. The damage is solid without being meta, and its Enten buff raises the output of the rest of your rotation. Cursed Love is the weakest of the three on paper next to top styles and abilities, but it holds up as pure sword damage, and its Rika Zone buffs your Z, X, and C moves.
B-tier: usable, but plan your upgrade
The Black Knight is the pick of this group despite not topping it on damage, because its passive support buff raises the damage of your main rotation. Lightspeed Ninja actually deals more damage than The Mindmaster and runs faster thanks to a cooldown-reducing passive and a mobility option on C, but it doesn’t bring the same team value.
The Mindmaster covers decent DPS with crowd control attached. War General is the opposite case from Black Knight, with strong mid-game damage and almost no utility, so it falls off once scaling matters.
C and D-tier: replace these
First Espada and Thunder both fell off for the same reason. They carry fewer moves than newer weapons, which caps their damage per rotation no matter how well you play them. Jitte and Bisento sit in the same range as basic step-up options.
Everything in D-tier is a starter or an early gamepass blade. Base Zangetsu (Shikai), Night Blade, Ace, Saber, Katana, Iron Cutlass, Dual Cutlass, Buggy’s Knife, and Kiribachi all work while you level, but none of them scale into endgame content. Base Zangetsu is the one worth holding onto briefly, since it’s the path to True Zangetsu (Bankai).
What to chase first
If you’re farming bosses, Solemn Lament and True Zangetsu (Bankai) give you the most coverage, since one adds sustained utility and the other closes fights quickly. For duels, Acherin’s resistance reduction and mobility or Bankai’s single-target nuke are the safer picks. Anyone building around support should look at The Black Knight, Geburo, or Chihora as a second weapon rather than a main.
Several of the top options also show up in the in-game shop. Undyne and Solemn Lament are each listed at 2,299 Robux, and the Acherin Bundle runs 2,499 Robux, so the top of the list isn’t gated behind farming alone.
Note: a weapon you’ve actually practiced with will outperform a higher-ranked one you haven’t. Rotations here reward timing, and mode-based kits like Undyne’s punish sloppy activation more than they reward the icon in your inventory.
Expect this order to move. Update 1.9 already added new abilities and a spec obtainable at Grave Island, and the pattern in Legacy Piece has been that each new release resets what counts as meta. Rankings here describe the September 2026 state of the roster, not a permanent hierarchy.
