Riot is trimming Ambessa, Ashe, and K’Sante while buffing Kennen, Kindred, and other fringe picks on the patch Worlds runs on.

Patch 26.20 is the version of League of Legends that Worlds 2026 will be played on, which makes every number in it a competitive decision. Riot has pulled back on a few picks that pro teams have leaned on all year, handed power to champions sitting just under viability, and reworked Hextech Rocketbelt again so it leans into aggression instead of acting as a second Flash.

Quick answer: This is the last Worlds patch. Ambessa, Ashe, Cassiopeia, K’Sante, and Yunara are nerfed, while Kennen, Kindred, Lillia, Vayne, and others get buffs. It is scheduled for October 7, 2026, with new HEARTSTEEL skins the same day.

Pro-staple nerfs for Worlds 2026

The nerf list is built around champions that dominate coordinated play. Ambessa has been too consistent in her late-game output, Ashe is pumping out too much raw damage for the highest-utility marksman in the game, and K’Sante is being pushed away from being a safe blind pick through weaker early mana and damage reduction.

ChampionAbilityChange
AmbessaPassive, Drakehound’s StepDamage 5–30 (+25% bonus AD) → 5–25 (+20% bonus AD)
AsheBase statsAttack damage per level 3.5 → 3
CassiopeiaBase statsHealth 630 → 610; mana 480 → 450
K’SanteW, Path MakerMana cost 40–60 → 45–65; damage reduction 30/75% → 25/70%
YunaraQ, Cultivation of SpiritOn-hit damage 5–25 (+20% AP) → 3–23 (+20% AP)

Yunara also loses a hidden layer of control. Her W, Arc of Judgment, slow no longer stacks with other slows, closing off a way to chain-lock targets while she scales. Riot flagged her as the prime candidate for a “do-nothing hyperscaler” meta it wants to avoid heading into the tournament.

Champion buffs in patch 26.20

On the other side of the ledger, Riot is trying to widen the Worlds champion pool. Several of these buffs double as compensation for the Rocketbelt change, since picks like Kennen and Neeko lean on that item.

ChampionAbilityChange
DianaW, Pale CascadeShield bonus health ratio 11% → 14%
KennenE, Lightning RushBonus attack speed 40–80% → 50–90%
KindredW, Wolf’s FrenzyMonster mod 150% → 165%
KindredE, Mounting DreadSlow 1s → 1.5s; no longer targets small monsters
LilliaR, Lilting LullabyDuration 2.5s → 2.5/2.75/3s
LucianBase statsAttack damage growth 2.5 → 2.9 per level
MordekaiserQ, ObliterateScaling at levels 10–20 +5 → +7 per level
MordekaiserR, Realm of DeathCooldown 140/120/100s → 120/110/100s
NeekoE, Tangle-BarbsBase damage 70–210 → 80–220; empowered root 1.8–3s → 2–3s
Tahm KenchQ, Tongue LashBase healing 10–25 → 10–50

Smolder leans into crit

Smolder’s crit builds get a direct bump to close the gap with his bruiser setup. His passive Super Scorcher bonus magic damage moves from 25–55% to 25–60% of stacks, Flap Flap Flap goes from 8–12.8% to 8–14%, and his R self-heal jumps from 100/135/170 (+50% bonus AD) to 100/175/250 (+75% bonus AD), both keeping their 75% AP scaling.

Swain gets a mid-lane push

Swain trades some armor for more magic resistance, dropping from 25 to 23 base armor while rising from 31 to 34 base MR. His W, Vision of Empire, climbs to 70/115/160/205/250 (+60%) damage with its cooldown cut to 20/19/18/17/16 seconds. The goal is a stronger mid lane presence that also narrows the gap between his mid and bot performance.

Vayne reclaims bot-lane power

Vayne’s health regen shifts from 4 + 0.5 per level to 5.5 + 0.4 per level so she can weather lane harass, and her Q, Tumble, mana cost is flattened to a straight 30 from the old 46/42/38/34/30 curve. That reverts a cost Riot felt was simply too punishing.

Item changes: Rocketbelt, Hexplate, and Runaan’s

Hextech Rocketbelt keeps getting reined in as a cheap escape tool. Its ability haste is halved from 20 to 10, but the active hits much harder, moving from 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP). The idea is to reward a risky engage dash over repeated spell rotations, which is why AP bruisers who all-in with it get the damage boost as direct payback.

Experimental Hexplate loses value for ranged users, with its ranged mod dropping from 70% (35% attack speed, 14% move speed) to 50% (25% attack speed, 10% move speed). Riot was unhappy with how resilient and lethal it made ranged top laners rushing it first. Runaan’s Hurricane also gives back a little, with attack damage per bolt falling from 65% to 60%.

Private replays and third-party restrictions

With this update, you can view replays only for matches you played. Your match recordings are no longer downloadable by other players, and external apps or websites have lost all ability to download replay files. Riot is also limiting third-party access to game memory to close vulnerabilities that cheat developers had been exploiting.

You can still review your own games. Downloading and watching your replays through the League client works exactly as before.

Scoreboard cleanup

Icon counters for a batch of items are now hidden on the scoreboard, cleaning up the clutter that built up after recent systemic changes. The affected items are:

  • Death’s Dance, Haunting Guise, Liandry’s Torment, Riftmaker
  • Kraken Slayer, Terminus, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Fiendhunter Bolts
  • Echoes of Helia, Dead Man’s Plate, Spear of Shojin, Overlord’s Bloodmail
  • Hullbreaker, Jak’sho the Protean, Force of Nature

New skins releasing with patch 26.20

HEARTSTEEL is back with its Live My Life line, available October 7, 2026. Seven cosmetics ship alongside the patch:

  • Prestige HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Sett
  • HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Ezreal
  • HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Kayn
  • HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Aphelios
  • HEARTSTEEL Live My Life Yone
  • HEARTSTEEL Live My Life K’Sante
  • Prestige Classic Baron Kog’Maw

Changes Riot pulled from the patch

Two intended changes were cut before release. Riot postponed Varus adjustments while it works on a more substantial overhaul of his itemization, since a minor tweak would leave the underlying issue intact. Sylas tuning was also removed to preserve the balance between his roles, particularly with the Rocketbelt adjustment arriving in this update.

With the patch live, this is the version that will define the competitive year on Summoner’s Rift. You can confirm it applied by checking the client shows 26.20 before queuing, and the full breakdown sits in the official patch 26.20 notes.
