In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, the Scavenger is a Lieutenant who does not hold one fixed place. As you approach, the Lieutenant banner identifies the nearby point of interest. Fight the Scavenger at range around the parked vehicles, then extract with the dog tag.

Quick answer: Look for the LIEUTENANT / SCAVENGER banner at South Island or Cheongun Village. Kill the Scavenger from cover with a scoped rifle, then take the dog tag and extract for $25,000.

Scavenger locations in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ

The Scavenger’s location isn’t fixed between matches, so check the Lieutenant banner and side-op marker on each drop. The side op appears as “Kill the Scavenger”. If you purchased the intel, its listing reads “Paid Intel: Kill the Scavenger”.

At South Island, your compass reads “South Island” as you approach. The Scavenger stands among parked vans, including a red one and a white one. A green military cargo truck and a camouflaged LTV are parked nearby, and the “ENTER LTV” prompt appears beside the LTV.

How to beat the Scavenger Lieutenant at South Island

The Scavenger fights in the open and uses the vans and military vehicles as cover. A long-range fight from the surrounding apartment blocks works well here. If you arrive fresh, clear the area first.

Stop in cover as soon as the Scavenger banner appears. Doorways and corners of the apartment blocks facing the car park give you a clear line across it.

Equip a scoped rifle and shoot at the Scavenger in the gaps between the parked vans. A hybrid or magnified optic helps you see through the fog.
Duck back into cover to reload. The Scavenger returns fire from behind the vehicles, so do not reload while you are exposed.
After damaging the Scavenger, advance and fire bursts from above the red van’s hood to finish the fight.

The kill brings up an ELIMINATED LIEUTENANT popup and the SIDE OP COMPLETE / KILL THE SCAVENGER banner. The side-op line awards +500 XP.

Picking up the dog tag shows KILL CONFIRMED. The tag’s card reads “All other operators can see this case’s location on the tac map.” That means rival squads can track you until you extract.

Leave an empty backpack slot before the fight. If your backpack is full, trying to collect the tag displays “BACKPACK FULL”.

Scavenger dog tag extraction payout

Extract with SCAVENGER’S DOG TAG to cash it in. The extraction summary lists Lieutenant Dog Tags at $25,000. If this is your first Lieutenant kill, it also adds First Lieutenant Takedowns at $10,000.
