Every run in No More Room in Hell 2 ends the same way, but only if you make it out. Because death is permanent and takes your character’s skills and experience with it, reaching an exit matters more than any single objective along the way. There are two separate ways to leave a map, and they reward you very differently.
Quick answer: Finish every main objective to trigger the helicopter, then board it to keep your character plus all account and character XP. If three or fewer players are left alive, a radio call unlocks an early extraction hatch instead, which saves your character but counts as a mission failure and grants no EXP.
Full extraction by helicopter
The standard exit is the helicopter, and it only appears after your squad clears the mission’s main objectives. This is the rewarding path, since boarding the ride keeps your character alive and pays out all the account and character XP you earned during the run.
C key. The red arrows on the compass and the red circle on the map both point to where the current main objective needs to be completed.

Runs fall apart. If teammates run out of gear or become zombie food and your group drops to three or fewer living players, the game offers a way out that doesn’t depend on finishing anything. This bailout exists specifically to protect the characters you’ve spent time leveling.

The trade-off is real. Leaving this way registers as a mission failure and pays out no EXP, so you gain nothing from the run except the character itself. If you’ve been leveling that responder for days or weeks, that’s usually worth it.
What each exit gives you
| Outcome | Helicopter extraction | Early hatch extraction |
|---|---|---|
| Requirement | All main objectives complete | Three or fewer players alive |
| Mission result | Success | Failure |
| EXP earned | All account and character XP | None |
| Character survives | Yes | Yes |
Either exit protects you from the one outcome that actually hurts: dying before you get out. Permadeath erases the character along with every skill and all the XP it accumulated, so when a run turns against you, taking the hatch to keep the responder is almost always better than gambling on the helicopter and losing everything.
