The SKS – Pathfinder is a Legendary sniper rifle in Once Human built around one idea: turn steady rifle fire into a stream of piercing frost projectiles. Instead of relying on raw bullet damage, it traps enemies in an ice field, feeds off particles they drop, and then unloads charged Ice Spikes that punch through everything in a line. That loop is what makes it a go-to pick for melting single bosses and packed rooms alike.

Quick answer: Hitting enemies stacks Deviant Particles into a Charging state, and firing while charged launches penetrating Ice Spikes that deal frost damage equal to 110% of your Attack — damage that scales with status and elemental stats, not weapon damage.

SKS – Pathfinder weapon stats and rarity

The Pathfinder is a Wanderer blueprint sniper rifle with Legendary rarity. Its base numbers are modest on paper, since most of its output comes from the frost mechanic rather than the listed damage figure. Below are the Tier I values before any calibration or blueprint enhancement.

StatValueStatValue
DMG94Crit Rate5%
Fire Rate257Weakspot DMG50%
MAG20Crit DMG40%
Stability38Accuracy68
Range39Reload Speed75

Upgrading the weapon through its tiers raises the base damage sharply, from 94 at Tier I up to 547 at Tier V. Each tier step needs stock and barrel crafting parts, moving from copper and waste plastic at the low end to tungsten ingots and automatic parts near the top.

How the Frost Vortex and Ice Spike loop works

Every part of the Pathfinder feeds a single cycle. You shoot to place frost fields, the fields and hits produce particles, and the particles let you fire the spikes that do the heavy damage. The four weapon passives chain together like this:

  • Frost Vortex on hit: hitting a target triggers a Frost Vortex, on a 5-second cooldown that each hit shortens by 1 second.
  • Particle generation: every hit has a 60% chance to spawn Deviant Particles; picking them up puts you into a Charging state, holding up to 10.
  • Charged Ice Spike: firing while charged spends particles to launch a penetrating ice spike dealing Ice Elemental damage equal to 110% of Attack.
  • Frost stacking: Ice Elemental damage is raised by 30%, and each charged shot adds 8% more for 15 seconds, stacking up to three times.

The Frost Vortex itself is a keyword effect, not just a visual. It traps enemies inside a 4.5m radius and applies Psi Intensity status damage in repeated ticks over 4 seconds, with up to two vortexes active at once. That frost damage is unusual: it does not decay with distance, cannot crit, and cannot land weakspot hits, so it acts as a steady tick on top of your spike damage.

The spikes are the payoff. Because they penetrate, a single charged shot hits every enemy standing in its flight path for full damage, which is why the weapon clears grouped mobs as fast as it drops a boss.

In PvP the penetrating spikes deal 80% less damage, and spikes hit Metas for only 20% damage, so the frost payload is tuned mainly for PvE.

Why it scales with status damage, not weapon damage

The most important detail about the current Pathfinder is what its Ice Spikes count as. The spike damage benefits from nearly every personal damage stat you can stack — critical, weakspot, elemental, and status effect damage — while ignoring pure weapon damage stats. A recent weapon rework shifted this scaling toward status effect damage rather than weapon damage, which changed how players build around it.

In practice that means the numbers on the gun’s damage line matter less than your character’s elemental and status modifiers. Frost Vortex damage bonuses feed directly into both the vortex ticks and the spikes, so cold-focused mods and effects push the total far higher than the base stat sheet suggests.

Frugal Style calibration and tuning

Even though the payoff is elemental, the rifle is commonly paired with the Frugal Style sniper calibration. That perk grants a flat attack boost and refunds ammo when a shot misses, which keeps the charge loop feeding without draining the small 20-round magazine.

The calibration also rolls high weapon damage and crit rate values on top of its base effect, which is why it stays popular across both the full-elemental and crit-hybrid setups. The attack bonus applies to the 110% Attack scaling, so it lifts the spikes even though the perk itself is a weapon-oriented roll.

PvE performance against Level 60 bosses

The Pathfinder excels against endgame foes: it launches charged spikes almost without pause, building Frost Vortex ticks and elemental bonuses so its damage rises as the battle goes on. Against Level 60 enemies such as Dr. Mannheim and The Forsaken Giant, every piercing shot produces a stream of frost damage numbers.

Because the spikes pierce, the same setup that shreds a single boss also sweeps through lab enemies and dungeon packs lined up behind one another. That flexibility is why it gets used as a daily-content weapon and not just a boss-only tool.

Where to get the SKS – Pathfinder blueprint

The blueprint is not a random drop and cannot be pulled from Mystical Crates. It is sold directly in the Blueprint Shop at the Wish Machine for 8,000 Starchrom. Facing the Wish Machine, opening the Blueprint Shop lets you purchase it outright, after which you craft and tier the weapon like any other.

Once purchased, the blueprint stays in your collection, so raising its star rank increases the damage of copies crafted afterward. Between that fixed Starchrom cost and its status-scaling frost loop, the Pathfinder is a dependable, non-random path to a top-tier PvE sniper.
