Heroes and Stones, West is a crossover zone in Order of the Sinking Star’s northernmost region. Here, the pushing mechanics from Heroes of Hauling meet the water-skipping mechanics from Skipping Stones. Enter through the HxS gold room; beyond it, five screens contain crystals, skipping stones, lily pads, and puzzles involving multiple heroes. Since solving some puzzles opens up others, tackle them in the right sequence.
Quick answer: Solve the HxS gold room, use its grey stone to reach and clear the left puzzle, then finish screens 1, 2 and 3. Return to screen 1 for screen 4, then ride into screen 5.
Heroes and Stones, West rules and move notation
Each puzzle hands you one or two fixed heroes. Their abilities combine with skipping stones, which travel across water, and lily pads, which drift with currents. A skipping stone that hits a lily pad pushes the pad in that direction. A crystal pushed into water sinks and turns into a walkable tile.
Hero
What they do here
Warrior
Pushes rocks, stones and monsters
Sailor
Pushes stones across water and stops them
Wizard
Swaps places with a stone, crystal or hero
Bard
Aura carries and skips crystals
All directions below use the same shorthand. Learn it before you start, because the solutions are written as push sequences.
A direction on its own means one square in that direction.
A direction followed by ×N means N squares.
“All the way” describes continuing in one direction until an obstacle or the path’s endpoint prevents you from going farther.
“Across the water” means push a skipping piece so it travels over open water.
Several puzzles depend on timing. Holding Ctrl slows time and holding Shift makes you run, which gives you room to react when a stone or lily pad is moving.
How to reach Heroes and Stones, West from the HxS gold room
The HxS gold room opens only after you have made significant progress in both Heroes of Hauling and Skipping Stones. Solving the gold room’s own puzzle gives you a grey skipping stone. That stone is your key to the left puzzle.
Head one screen up and step on the reset square there to restore the gold stone. This opens the way to the puzzle on the left.
Left puzzle solution
The left puzzle runs over several screens and leans on lily pad timing. You ride a pad to each new screen, so watch where it is before you push anything across the water.
Slide the stone left four spaces, then move it up over the water; this shifts the lily pad right. Jump aboard when it passes the sunken crystal, and ride it to the following screen.
Push the stone up ×2 and all the way right, then down across the water gap so it hits the crystal. Push the crystal up and right to open the way forward.
Push the crystal up, continuing until it can go no farther left. Move the stone up and left as far as it will go, then push it left over the water to shift the pad down.
Push the crystal left onto the pad as it goes by. Run to the bottom-left corner, and when the pad arrives, push the crystal left and ride the pad to the next screen.
Push the stone right over the water to return it, then push it upward over the water. The teleporter route will be clear.
Overworld stone route to screen 2
Finishing both bottom-right puzzles unlocks a skipping stone in the overworld. Push it left, then up across the water, and walk up to screen 2. On screen 2, push the stone right, up, all the way left, then left into the lily pad. The pad and stone get carried off by the current.
You can enter the first middle puzzle once the stone and lily pad drift into the same row as the ranged monster.

Screen 2: Warrior, sailor and wizard puzzles
Screen 2 has four middle puzzles. The top-left puzzle only activates after the fourth. Most of these give you two heroes, so check which one each step names before you move.
Once the pad reaches the column immediately to the teleporter’s right, push the remaining crystal right over the water. It sinks, opening a route to the teleporter.
Push the whole row left ×2. The skipping crystal flies left across the water, the sailor blocks it, and the teleporter path opens.
Middle puzzle 3
The sailor sends stones flying over the water; the warrior can send them back by shoving a rock into their route. To make each bounce, push the warrior’s rock as the stone enters the square next to it.
As the stone reaches the square beside the rock next to the warrior, on its left side, have the warrior shove the rock left. The stone travels back over the water to the sailor and stops there, clearing access to the other stones.
Once the stone reaches the square beside the warrior’s rock on its left, shove that rock left. The stone rebounds and comes to rest immediately beneath the sailor.
The moment the stone reaches the square just left of the warrior’s rock, push the rock left. The two stones bounce leftward, with exactly one vacant square separating them.
When the first stone is under the sailor, press down, then up. When the second stone lines up under her, press down again to finish the path to the teleporter.
If the warrior pushes late in step 9, the two stones come back without the one-square gap, and the final sequence will not work.
As the sailor, push the stone right across the water and move her down. When the stone is directly below the monster, have the warrior push the monster down so the stone drops into the gap at the bottom of the screen.
Opening the top-left puzzle
Middle puzzle 4 activates the top-left puzzle, but you still need a path to it. Wait until the overworld stone and lily pad line up with the ranged monster’s row before you start.
Put the warrior left of the stone and push it all the way right, then right across the water. Move the warrior up, right, up so he shares a row with the wizard.
From here, walk one screen right to reach screen 3.
Screen 3: Yellow button and barrier puzzles
Both puzzles on screen 3 use a yellow button that lowers yellow barriers while you stand on it. A stone resting on a barrier when you step off sinks with it and becomes floor.
Once the stone clears the barrier, move the sailor onto her teleporter, then the warrior onto his. Both must get there before the stone reaches the monster.
Head directly to the yellow button, stopping the stone on the barrier to the left. Step away to sink the stone and create access to the right platform.
Move the left-hand stone up three spaces, left, then left over the water. Send the right-hand stone all the way left, then push it left over the water.
Return to screen 1. With the barrier obstructing the left route removed, use the passage in the bottom-left corner of screen 1 to get to screen 4.
Screen 4: Wizard swap puzzles
On screen 4, the wizard’s swap ability works with the sailor. Tackle the bottom puzzle, followed by the top and then the left one. To restore the wizard’s power before solving the top and left puzzles, enter screen 4 again from the left.
As the sailor, push the stone right across the water. Then, as the wizard, press right twice. The sailor now stands left, the stone sits in the middle, and the wizard is on the right.
Move the sailor down ×3 into the wizard’s row and swap the wizard with her by pressing right. Move the wizard all the way up and press left to swap with the stone, which puts him on the teleporter.
This unlocks an overworld stone. Push it left ×5, right, then up across the water. Go back to screen 1, enter screen 4 through the left entrance to pick up the wizard’s power, and swap with the stone to open the top puzzle.
Ride the pad until the wizard sits below the crystal, press up to swap, then walk to the teleporter.
That releases a lily pad. Go back to the bottom, reset the stone, and push it up, all the way left, then left into the lily pad. Return to the wizard-power entrance and swap with the stone as it drifts past. The left puzzle opens.
As the sailor, push the crystal into the square right of the teleporter so she can reach it.
Once the left puzzle is done, board the lily pad and follow the path on the left side of the screen into screen 5.
Screen 5: Aura crystal puzzles
Screen 5 has three top-left puzzles that unlock the bottom area, then five bottom puzzles. Your aura picks up crystals and carries or skips them as you walk, so keep track of where each crystal sits inside the aura. All moves below are your own walking directions.
Move all the way right, all the way down, all the way left, all the way right, then up. The sunken crystal now sits in the bottom-left corner of your aura.
Run all the way up and all the way left to bring it into the button’s column, then move down to skip it onto the button.
Skipping crystal route to the bottom puzzles
Clearing the top-left series unlocks another skipping crystal. Hold it in the bottom-right corner of your aura and skip it left one platform at a time, moving right before each landing so you can skip it left again. On the last skip onto the button platform, move right and then up before the crystal lands, so it stays on the button. The barrier to the bottom puzzles opens.
Quickly move down ×2 and left until you catch the crystal, then run right to send it back. It stops in the left column of the dock outlet, and you must be standing directly below that square when it lands.
As the sailor, push the crystal down. When the lily pad nears the column right of the bard’s platform, push the crystal right across the water. The pad moves up so the bard can cross.
Switch to the bard. When the pad and crystal reach the column right of the top-right lily pad, move her up. The crystal goes up and the top-right pad slides left.
As the sailor, push the crystal all the way left, then down. When the bard is in the column left of the large landmass, push the crystal left across the water into the lily pad. The top pad stops one column left of the bard.
Move the bard onto her teleporter. That lowers the crystal on the top pad and sends the bottom pad right, carrying the sailor to the right teleporter.
How to confirm Heroes and Stones, West is complete
A puzzle counts as solved when its barrier lifts, its teleporter opens, and every hero in it stands on their own teleporter. Each finished puzzle adds a glowing shield emblem to the area’s constellation, and a full set of emblems lights up the whole constellation. The last check comes on screen 5’s bottom puzzle 5. Once the sailor and the bard both reach their teleporters, every puzzle in Heroes and Stones, West is done, and the path past the final barrier leads on toward Heroes and Stones East.
