What version 1.0.4 changes in Palworld, from the two new sub-missions and their rare schematics to campfire, fishing, and base fixes.

Palworld’s version 1.0.4 update is live, and the headline addition is a pair of linked sub-missions that end in two rare weapon schematics. Console players will see it as update 1.102.642. Everything else in the patch is balance work, quality-of-life adjustments, and a long run of bug fixes covering crashes, stuck missions, and multiplayer stability.

Quick answer: Travel to Fisherman’s Point in Mount Obsidian and accept “Beyond Dimensions” from the NPC there. Finishing it awards the Terra Blade Schematic 2 and opens “From the Far Side of the Moon,” which awards the Terraprisma Schematic 2.

How to start Beyond Dimensions and From the Far Side of the Moon

The two sub-missions run in sequence, so there is no way to jump straight to the second one. Both are new to 1.0.4, which means you will not see them on an older client or an un-updated dedicated server.

Update the game to version 1.0.4 (update 1.102.642 on consoles). If you play on a dedicated server, the server needs the same version, or you will be blocked by a version mismatch. Mismatch errors now show the version of the machine you are trying to connect to, which makes it easier to spot which side is out of date.
Head to Fisherman’s Point in Mount Obsidian and speak to the NPC there to accept “Beyond Dimensions.” The mission marker should appear on your map once the dialogue ends.
Clear “Beyond Dimensions” to collect the Terra Blade Schematic 2. Completion is what makes “From the Far Side of the Moon” available, so the second mission only shows up after the first is finished.
Progress “From the Far Side of the Moon” to earn the Terraprisma Schematic 2. Both schematics are rare, and the reward screen at the mission NPC now shows the correct rewards, so you can confirm what you are owed before handing anything in.

If a mission NPC stops responding, it is usually the dialogue lock that 1.0.4 addresses. Performing certain actions right after ending a conversation could previously stop that NPC from talking again, and NPCs inside a base who entered combat mid-dialogue would also go silent. Both are fixed.

Pal behavior and combat changes in version 1.0.4

The most noticeable fighting change is that summoned Pals and Base Pals now favor skills expected to deal more damage, instead of cycling through whatever is off cooldown. Charging-type skills used by Base Pals also behave differently, and mission target Pals and NPCs will no longer fall asleep while you are working through an objective.

ChangeEffect
Skill prioritySummoned and Base Pals pick higher-damage skills
Power BombMinimum use distance changed to cut down repeated backsteps
Core Eject ShotgunCore Eject damage adjusted
LapureSwimming speed adjusted
Lunaris EffigiesHoming enhancement value adjusted
Ancient BarkWork Suitability requirement lowered to Lv. 1

A cluster of skill bugs also got cleaned up. Removing a skill while it was mid-use could permanently disable it; attacks from summoned Pals could put unused skills on cooldown; and wild Pals could fire through walls at players they could not see. Warning indicators that failed to appear during some World Tree boss attacks now show up, interrupting Ophydia’s exclusive “Lotus Bloom” no longer crashes the game, and Pals revived in the Arena will keep fighting instead of standing still.

On the passive side, Killamari Primo’s Partner Skill had its Lv. 2 and Lv. 3 effects swapped, the Lucky passive’s defense bonus was not applying, and “Mercy Hit” was not counted for attacks made by Pals while you were riding them. Mutated Eggs produced through Grintale’s passive now carry the mutated stat values they were supposed to.

Fishing difficulty and the new World Settings option

Fishing spots in Sunreach and the World Tree area had their difficulty adjusted, and the number of items you get from a successful catch now varies by bait type. While fishing, you will see control guides, warning displays, and recommended equipment prompts that were not there before.

There is also a new “Fish Behavior During Fishing Minigames” entry in World Settings, which lets you change how fish act during the minigame on your own world. Two related bugs are gone as well: the reward display could show the same item type in several slots at once, and volcanic-area fishing spots could produce Pals that were never meant to appear there.

Base building, campfires, and new restricted zones

Campfires no longer set anyone on fire. Players, summoned Pals, and Base Pals can walk into a player-built Campfire without taking burn damage, which removes a long-running hazard in cold-weather bases.

Canceling work at a production facility now returns materials to your inventory rather than dropping them. If you have the “Do not automatically pick up items over the weight limit” option turned on, only the returned materials that push you past the limit will land at your feet when you cancel construction or dismantle a building.

Server owners get two new controls. When building restrictions are enabled in server settings, building is now blocked around the Field Boss Suzaku in the desert, the desert Main Mission cave, and several mission locations in Sakurajima. Administrators can also set a per-player cap on how many structures a single player may place in the world.

Building bugs fixed here include broken color picking in Paint Mode, awkward placement when connecting corner roofs diagonally, stairs on the side of a corner roof facing the wrong way, Worker Pal assignments not registering at base facilities, and chest access permissions being ignored when crafting pulled materials. Logging work also failed to happen on trees that respawned inside a base, and the collision on the Ancient Material Synthesizer was adjusted.

UI, performance, and platform-specific fixes

The Palpedia now has a name search field, and Work Suitability details are explained in both the Pal status UI and the Palpedia. Bounty Token acquisition notifications show passive effects and item descriptions. On PC, the default FPS cap changed to 120, so check that setting if your frame rate looks different after updating.

PlatformWhat changed
PCDefault FPS cap set to 120; Steam mod files can now be deleted properly
PS5Chat can be opened from the Radial Menu; memory use reduced in co-op

PS5 / Xbox Series X|SOn-screen keyboard now appears for Radial Menu chat; frozen wild Pals in the World Tree area fixed
Mac“MODUSE” no longer appears when no mods are in use
Dedicated serversCrafting display no longer sticks on screen; per-player building limit setting added

Rendering load from foliage and effects was reduced, stuttering when certain passive skills trigger was cut down, and field rendering in the World Tree area was optimized. Several crashes are also gone, including one when sorting Pals on a server, one during the animation after a fishing spot disappears, and one triggered by displaying a very long mission description.

Progression blocks fixed in Palworld 1.0.4

Two main mission dead ends are resolved. Defeating Panthalus before advancing the Main Mission could stop the World Tree Guardian from appearing later, and the “Crafting an Axe and a Pickaxe” objective would never tick over if you already owned or had equipped one before accepting it.

Co-op groups had their own problems. Joining players could fail to be added to the host’s guild, and a client walking into a mission progression area could advance the host’s mission without them. Voice Chat settings that were not being applied correctly now stick, and Arena opponents’ Pals can be targeted again.

Other blockers worth knowing about: controls could stop responding after a connection error kicked you to the title screen, or when switching maps while placing a custom marker. A Pal recalled immediately after being summoned could not be summoned again. Visitors sometimes spawned in places you could not reach.

Items, shops, and smaller adjustments

The Echoing Flute can be dropped from your inventory now. The Pal Critic in Sakurajima wants Dogen instead of Selyne, and the one in Sunreach wants Faleris Aqua instead of Bastigor, so update your catch list before making the trip.

Shop math was off when selling several items at once, item counts could fail to refresh while moving stacks, and Radiant Gems dropped by wild Pals in the World Tree area came back with mismatched or heavily skewed elements. Elsewhere, mission NPCs no longer stay standing after death, Panthalus’s collision matches its model, Paladius’s Partner Skill stopped summoning a normal-sized Alpha Necromus from your party, and the Prixter Lux Field Boss icon displays correctly. Audio fixes cover a looping Attack Chopper propeller sound, stray BGM on the loading screen after the World Tree boss fight, and battle music playing over cutscenes.

No new achievements come with 1.0.4, so the reason to reinstall is the two sub-missions and their schematics rather than a gamerscore bump. If you were stuck on the World Tree Guardian or the axe and pickaxe objective, updating is the fix.
