In the Village of Lu, climb the stairs beside the Statue Grounds Entrance bell to reach the Statue Grounds: a paved courtyard lined with stone statues and shrines. A gate threaded with red strands marks the yard; see the Master Bi Yuan location guide for the complete route. No cutscene plays. He approaches and attacks as soon as you enter, so go through the gate prepared to fight.
Master Bi Yuan’s attacks
Master Bi Yuan changes his attacks with distance. At close range, within a few metres, he makes fast sword cuts that you can parry; farther away, he sends teal slashes and blade arcs your way. He often slips sideways or steps back to break out of your combos. These movements lead into his two most dangerous attacks: the lunge and the dash cuts.
Close sword chain
At a distance of roughly 2 to 4 metres, he advances with a chain of two or three rapid cuts. Each hit deals around 160 HP on PATHBREAKER, making a complete chain worth at least 320 HP. One harder strike within the sequence deals 320 HP alone. Parry every cut. On WAYFARER, these sequences are almost always stopped by parrying.

Crescent sweep
At close quarters, his sword can sweep out a broad green crescent, frequently as the final strike in a chain. The arc hits about one second after the swing starts.

Parry the attack; a successful deflection sends sparks from his blade.

Sidestep lunge
He shifts sideways, sets his stance, and drives straight toward you. On PATHBREAKER, this strike deals 801 HP in a single hit, more than half of Soul’s 1,275 HP bar. Impact comes roughly 1.7 seconds after he begins moving aside, so dodging when the blade reaches you is too late.
Dodge when his sidestep ends and he turns to face you again; don’t wait for the sword to reach you.

Forward dash cuts
After retreating or moving to the side, he rushes forward and cuts, sending a teal wave skimming across the ground. The attack connects about 1.1 to 1.2 seconds after it begins. On WAYFARER, the standard cut deals roughly 112 HP, while the stronger one deals around 336 HP. Parry the weaker attack; evade the stronger version.

Teal blade arcs
When you are roughly 5 to 8 metres away, he creates curved teal blades that sweep around Soul in groups of two or three. On PATHBREAKER, each blade that connects removes about 160 HP. Stay mobile and dodge through the blades, or move in close enough to keep him using his sword.

Flying slash
From approximately 12 metres away, he sends one teal slash flying across the arena. It arrives around a second after his swing and deals roughly 112 HP on WAYFARER. Dodge sideways to avoid it.

Heavy skill
He pulls back before releasing a large teal wave. The wave follows the wind-up in less than a second and deals 561 HP on WAYFARER; another hit dealt 440 HP. Dodge as soon as you see the pullback, as waiting until later leaves too little time.

Tips for fighting Master Bi Yuan
- Keep close enough to fight with swords and parry his attacks; at a distance, he can throw blade arcs and slashes.
- Reserve your dodges for his sidestep lunge and heavy skill, the two attacks with the greatest damage.
- Heal once a dodge has carried you out of danger, and do so before he begins another chain.
- Focus on landing parries instead of trying to drain his health quickly. On WAYFARER, a minute of exchanging attacks removes less than one-tenth of his health.
On PATHBREAKER, all three gourds can be gone within the first minute. If that difficulty feels too punishing, switching to WAYFARER lowers his damage.
Master Bi Yuan rewards
Defeating him gives you the Tianxuan Bronze Sword and 15,000 Remnant Dust.
