Quick answer: Free the caged Wulin fighter near the Cavern Passage bell, beat Bi Feng beyond the fog door near the Commander’s Platform bell, and speak to the fighter again to claim Ritual Cauldron Fragment III.

How to start The Broad Saber

The Broad Saber is a side tale in the Mountain of Imprisonment. It starts with a Wulin fighter locked in a cage about 55 m from the Cavern Passage bell, sitting roughly 15 m below it. If you have not found that bell yet, the full list of bell locations covers it.

Fiends are guarding the cage; clear them out before you talk to the fighter. He explains that he and the Maskwalkers once served together as brothers in the Mandate. Huangxing ordered every survivor to undergo Transcension, but the fighter refused, leading to his imprisonment. He points you toward the Old Commander, who once wiped out sixty-four bandit camps with his Juggernaut and is now a corrupted Maskwalker. If you survive, he asks you to come back and see him.

The map below marks the caged Wulin fighter.

The Broad Saber walkthrough

The quest log tracks the tale with two objectives:

  1. “Return to the Wulin fighter after defeating the Old Commander”
  2. “Return to the Wulin fighter in the caves”
Activate the Commander’s Platform bell before entering the boss arena. Its fog door is roughly 19 m away.
Go through the fog door and defeat the Old Commander, who appears on screen as Bi Feng, Giant Saber Commander. Winning the fight drops the Juggernaut, his heavy saber, straight away, before you head back to the cage.

Return to the Wulin fighter. He is overjoyed, tells you to put the Juggernaut to good use, and hands over Ritual Cauldron Fragment III. He then says he will make his way down the mountain to look for another way out.

The Broad Saber reward: Ritual Cauldron Fragment III

The item card for the fragment reads:

“A fragment of the Ritual Cauldron, carefully wiped clean. Whoever cleaned it could not bear to see this ceremonial vessel, once used by the great orthodox sects of old in rites honoring gods and Buddhas, disappear into the dust and smoke.”

Fragments I, II and III combine into the Restored Ritual Cauldron, which is the Soul Tempering material for the Juggernaut you just took from Bi Feng. Its Tempering art is Unfading Sunset:

“Crimson Wheel Slash no longer consumes Red Edge when it hits an enemy marked with Bandit-Slayer Mark.”

The other two fragments are also in the Mountain of Imprisonment, and they are marked among the Mountain of Imprisonment collectibles. Every other material of this kind is listed with all Soul Tempering materials.
