Where to Find Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper in Phantom Blade Zero (Route from Young Master Lan’s Hideout)

Quick answer: Zhuo Bi fights in a walled arena low in the Village of Lu. From the Young Master Lan’s Hideout bell, take the stone steps into the ravine, go through the barn, cross the Vessel pit and riverbed, then climb the rope ladder.

Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper is a boss in the Village of Lu during Chapter 1 of Phantom Blade Zero, on the story quest AGAINST THE FLOW. He waits at the low end of the valley, a fair walk downhill from Lan Shaodi’s camp.

Where Zhuo Bi is

Zhuo Bi fights in a walled yard with wooden houses, a fence and a roofed gate hung with blue lanterns. It sits below and beyond Young Master Lan’s Hideout, the walled camp where Lan Shaodi sits. The closest bell you can reach on foot is the Young Master Lan’s Hideout bell, so that is where you come back to after a death.

How to reach Zhuo Bi from Young Master Lan’s Hideout

Leave the Young Master Lan’s Hideout bell and head to the far corner of the camp, next to the wooden fence. Take the stone steps there down and out of the camp.

At the end of the steps, an overgrown ravine strewn with planks opens up. A palisade and dry-stone wall block the camp-facing side; head down the ravine in the opposite direction.

Drop off the short ledge into the gully, passing a big fallen log. It is a small drop.

Proceed down the gully until you reach a wooden house in ruins, with a plank floor.

Go farther until a long, dim barn appears, then pass directly through it.

Exiting the barn brings you to moss-covered boulders, with a natural arch in the rock and a stone bridge visible nearby.

Take the plank path ahead, heading toward the wooden building lit by blue lanterns.

Partway along, step off the edge of the walkway and drop into the pit below, where two Vessels wait. If you need to climb back to the walkway, wall-run up the plank wall in the pit with Space.

Exit the pit by traveling along the riverbed, passing the broken cart. Continue until you find a wooden scaffold fitted with rope ladders and a torch burning nearby.

Turn to the rope ladder, keep W held as you press E, then hit Space when the prompt appears. A small roofed gate is set into a palisade at the top.

From the ladder’s upper end, continue across firm ground toward the walled arena. Heading for the opening before the palisade gate sends you back into the riverbed. Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper, advances as you arrive.

Village Beauty and Peacemaker in the pit

The two Vessels below the walkway are Village Beauty and Peacemaker; each has 2,006 HP, and they attack as a pair. On PATHBREAKER, you can defeat them in under half a minute, losing about 320 HP as Soul without needing to heal. Their combined drop is about 480 Remnant Dust.

Zhuo Bi fight: Health, shield bar and damage

His name bar displays “Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper”. This hulking, armoured brute has 41,800 HP and wields a long polearm alongside a giant shield carved with a demon face.

A shield bar sits above his health. While it holds, your hits barely dent his health.
His shield bar decreases when you parry his attacks.
When the bar breaks, he is staggered for several seconds. That window is when his health drops.
Once depleted, the shield bar restores itself automatically.

The BASTION is the enormous shield Zhuo Bi carries. Its reward card says it can withstand every attack and convert the damage into a counterattack. The Bastion exploration ability remains available even without the shield equipped, allowing Soul to stop crossbow bolts and push farther into dangerous areas.

Beside the boss gate, a chest by the stake fence contains a BLACKSTONE SHARD. A little above the arena, Firefly’s Memory Flower grows among blue flowers next to a dry-stone wall.
