Slayers 2: How to Get the Firstlight Tanto Schematic in Iceveil Valley

The night-time Iceveil Valley chain that hands you the Mushroom Lit Lantern first, then the buried Mythic schematic.

The night-time Iceveil Valley chain that hands you the Mushroom Lit Lantern first, then the buried Mythic schematic.

The Firstlight Tanto Schematic is a Mythic unlock buried in the snow of Iceveil Valley, and the chest holding it only cooperates if a short night-time chain is done in the right order. A second reward sits in the middle of that chain, the Legendary Mushroom Lit Lantern, and it is the only light source in Slayers 2 that reveals the trail to the dig spot.

Quick answer: Buy the Shovel after finishing Shiro’s supply quest, pay Old Trapper Retsu 2,500 cash at night, unequip every lantern, light all the blue cave mushrooms, then dig where the footprints stop.

What the Firstlight Tanto route pays out

Two items come out of the chain. The lantern arrives first and is worth keeping equipped long after the quest is over, thanks to its movement speed and stamina regen multipliers.

Mushroom Lit LanternValueFirstlight TantoValue
Illumination+0.45Additional Damage+5.75
Max Health+20Additional Damage Factor1.15x
Max Stamina+15Point Points+8.3
Movement Speed Factor1.05xBlock Regen2.36x
Stamina Regen Speed1.07xMax Stamina+45

The high additional damage and the +45 Max Stamina are what push the tanto to the top of the slayer weapon list, while the block regen multiplier keeps it usable in long fights where you spend a lot of time guarding.

Requirements that gate the chain

Four requirements determine the entire sequence. If even one is missing, the mushrooms, footprints, and buried chest remain inactive.

  • A Shovel must be in your inventory; it is sold only after completing the Iceveil village supply quest.
  • It must be night in-game, as Old Trapper Retsu appears only during those hours.
  • Bring 2,500 cash or more to pay Retsu for the information.
  • For your initial cave visit, leave every lantern and other light source unequipped.

Iceveil Valley inflicts cold damage unless you have protection. The Emberheart Lantern grants Cold Immunity; the Yeti Demon in the White Terror Lair drops it, and campfires in the region recharge it instead of occupying an active slot.

How to get the Shovel in Iceveil Village

Finding the dig spot ahead of time does not bypass the requirement. The buried chest stays unopened unless the Shovel is equipped, so handle this step first.

Obtain nine Cooked Meat. Repeating Lucy’s quest near Beginner Village is the quickest method because the route heads toward the Mother Bear area and includes Tom. A completed run rewards three Cooked Meat, making three runs sufficient.

Travel to Iceveil Village and speak to Iceveil Guard Shiro at the entrance to accept the supply quest. Deposit the nine Cooked Meat into the Gate Stores cart.

Handle the second half of the order, the Health Elixirs. Alchemist Maku at Mistfall Harbor sells them for Yen and Demon Horns, and around 50 Demon Horns of buying power is a comfortable buffer for the 25 elixirs. Load them into the same cart.
Complete Shiro’s quest to unlock the village gates. Enter the Winter Store, then purchase the Shovel at the counter for 1,000 Wen.

Pay Old Trapper Retsu at night

Everything from here has to happen after dark. Starting the Retsu conversation during the day does nothing, so wait out the clock at a campfire if you arrive early.

After night begins, leave the Mother Bear area and travel south into Iceveil Valley. You will find Old Trapper Retsu next to the red torii gate.
Speak with him, choose the “Lantern on your belt” response, and continue until payment is requested. Give him the 2,500 cash; he then reveals the cave clues.
Before moving on, open your inventory and unequip every lantern and light source you are carrying. This is the hidden trigger for the next step, and skipping it wastes the trip.

Light the blue mushrooms and take the Mushroom Lit Lantern

Leave Retsu heading southeast, enter the nearby cave, and proceed inside. Bring a light or use the campfire along the route, since the low visibility and darkness rapidly drain health; regeneration items work as another option.
Carefully step onto every glowing blue mushroom on the stone platforms and elevated ledges. Watch the floor as you move. The trigger succeeds only when sparkling particles appear, and all mushrooms inside must activate.
If nothing spawns after the last mushroom, walk the same route again. Retriggering the mushrooms two or three times is often what it takes, and rejoining the server and repeating the cave run is the fallback.

Rejoining resets the cave, but it also resets the time of day, so check that it is still night before walking back to the mushrooms.

Continue to the cave’s rear and find the Mushroom Lit Lantern on the floor. Collect it, open the inventory, and equip it. This lantern should be active, unlike during the first visit.

Follow the footprints and dig up the schematic

Return to the same cave with the lantern equipped. Blue, glowing footprints will then show across the ground, but they appear only when that particular lantern is active.
Trace the trail out of the cave and across the snow until it stops on a raised snowy platform. Do not cut the path short or guess at the endpoint, because the dig spot is exactly where the prints end.
Equip the Shovel, then excavate that platform. A hidden chest will appear there; open it for the Firstlight Tanto Schematic.

The result is confirmed when the Mythic-tier schematic appears in your inventory and the Firstlight Tanto record in the Archives menu can be read, including its complete stat block and description.

Farm the Firstlight crafting materials

The schematic grants the unlock rather than the completed blade. You can obtain Firstlight materials, including Firstlight Weaver’s Silk, from two repeatable sources. A patch also reduced the material cost, making the grind shorter than at launch.

SourceBase material chanceCost or notes
World bosses and World Chests3%Rotate bosses across regions
Dungeon end chests in Ouwigahara5%30,000 points per run

World boss rotation

The simplest route is repeated boss farming. Start with Yahari and Reaper at Bamboo Grove, cross the bridge to Sumari, then include Water Breaker Hashira Giyen and Wind Slayer Saneri. Every kill provides a World Events Chest in addition to its normal loot, and the circuit ends with the first boss respawned.

Standard drops appear on the ground beside the chest, so check the floor before leaving. The Bamboo Grove bosses commonly provide Coin Pouches and Metal Scraps as filler drops.

You will find markers throughout Bamboo Grove, the Wilderness, and Windy Peak, plus a Black Marketeer marker on the map. Because every location has the same drop chance, build the route to minimize travel instead of maximizing boss kills.

Ouwigahara dungeon runs

Dungeons offer the better percentage. Join through the gate by the Queue Area in Ouwigahara, finish the run, and use 30,000 points to unlock the end chest, which has a 5% material roll.

Both 2x and 4x boosts increase boss-loot and dungeon end-chest drop rates. Get one from the shop before you begin farming, not after the session is underway.

With the schematic banked, the only thing left is material luck, and that part moves at whatever pace you set. Keep the Mushroom Lit Lantern equipped in the meantime for the speed and stamina regen it carries, and if you are sweeping Iceveil Valley anyway, the Firstlight Spear Schematic sits in an icy cavern reached by diving near the submerged statue where Doma spawns.
