A strong squad in Star Wars Zero Company is built around three specializations that never leave the roster: Assault, Scout, and Sharpshooter. Each one supports a talent that lets you cheat on Action Points, and stacking those effects lets your team take more turns than the enemy can answer. The fourth slot changes as you unlock new Operators and, later, secondary specializations.
Quick answer: Keep Kabb (Assault), Jae (Scout), and Hawks (Sharpshooter) as your permanent core. Fill the last slot with Trick (Soldier) early, swap in Tel-Rea (Padawan) the moment she is available, then layer in secondary specializations once the game unlocks them.

Why Assault, Scout, and Sharpshooter anchor every team
These three specializations pull double duty. They deal damage, and they feed the economy that makes the whole squad faster. The table below shows what each core member contributes and the ability that ties the plan together.
| Operator | Specialization | Key talent or skill | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kabb | Assault | Uppercut (kill refunds all AP used) | Melee opener, close-range finisher |
| Jae | Scout | Final Shot (executes low-health enemies) | Mid-map control, debuffs, Advantage engine |
| Hawks | Sharpshooter | Fearless Leader, plus Pico-5 (+1 AP to an ally) | Backline Overwatch, buffs, AP donor |
Jae’s placement matters most. Position her near the center of the map with line of sight on as many enemies as possible so Final Shot can trigger. Her standard turn is to hit a cluster with Combat Recon for a large Advantage boost, then spend her remaining AP on two Blaster Pistol shots. Equip status-inducing mods so those shots apply Spotted to multiple targets.

At the start of the campaign, run the four strongest specializations you can field: Assault, Soldier, Scout, and Sharpshooter.
| Slot | Operator | How to play the turn |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | Kabb | Use Bull Rush to close distance, land an Uppercut knockout for the AP refund, then clean up with Sweeping Salvo and blaster attacks. |
| Soldier | Trick | Push into melee, use Brutal Strike, and place grenades. Convert Scout’s Advantage into Rocket Strike for AoE. |
| Scout | Jae | Combat Recon on the largest cluster, then two Blaster Pistol shots to spread Spotted. |
| Sharpshooter | Hawks | Activate Zero In from cover in the back, dump AP into Overwatch, and fire Precision Shots with spare Advantage. |
Trick’s talent, For My Brothers, revives him once when downed, which supports an aggressive close-range style. Hawks’ Pico-5 is the flex tool here. Hold it for the moment that grants an extra kill or lets an ally reach cover.
Upgrade the team after unlocking Tel-Rea
Once Tel-Rea is available, drop Trick and slot her in for the exclusive Padawan specialization. The core plan does not change. You still hunt Uppercut kills with Kabb, run Combat Recon with Jae every turn, and keep Hawks on Overwatch duty.
- Assault (Kabb)
- Padawan (Tel-Rea)
- Scout (Jae)
- Sharpshooter (Hawks)
Tel-Rea’s job is high-damage lightsaber strikes and using Push to both damage enemies and shove them into positions your ranged Operators can hit. Push also pulls targets closer so your melee members reach them for fewer AP.

The best team with secondary specializations
When secondary specializations open up, each core Operator gains a second spec that sharpens the role they already play. This is the strongest version of the standard squad.
| Operator | Primary / Secondary | What the secondary adds |
|---|---|---|
| Kabb | Assault / Soldier | Strength passive boosts melee damage for easier Uppercut kills, better grenades, and Brutal Strike to replace ending blaster attacks. |
| Tel-Rea | Padawan / Wayseeker | Lightsaber Throw is a devastating ultimate that often gets three or more kills. Pull adds a second displacement tool, and An Elegant Weapon buffs her strikes. |
| Jae | Scout / Gunslinger | Onslaught increases her blaster damage, and Open Fire spreads status effects further when Lightsaber Throw is not needed. |
| Hawks | Sharpshooter / Scoundrel | Identify Weakness guarantees critical hits, making upgraded Precision Shot far stronger, and makes him the top pick for calling in an Assist. |
Tel-Rea sees the biggest jump. Lightsaber Throw costs 10 Advantage, but Jae’s Combat Recon generates that amount easily, so you can aim to throw the saber almost every turn. Hawks’ Scoundrel package pairs naturally with his backline position, since he usually holds line of sight on most of the field for Assists.

The best team when Jae is unavailable
At a certain point Jae cannot be added to the squad for some missions. Losing Final Shot hurts, but a small reshuffle keeps the team strong. Bring in Luco as the Sharpshooter / Scoundrel, and shift Hawks into the mid-range Scout / Gunslinger slot Jae used to hold.
- Assault / Soldier (Kabb)
- Padawan / Wayseeker (Tel-Rea)
- Scout / Gunslinger (Hawks)
- Sharpshooter / Scoundrel (Luco)
Luco’s Combat Gas talent rewards a few high-impact ranged attacks, which fits the Sharpshooter / Scoundrel backline role well. When you move Hawks to mid-range, switch him to a Blaster Pistol with status-inducing mods so he keeps up the debuffing job Jae handled.
Note: Hawks is slightly more efficient from mid-range because he can reach more allies with Pico-5 there. Even so, he performs best as a dedicated Sharpshooter when Jae is on the team, so only move him forward once she is out of the lineup.

Across all four versions of the squad, the winning idea stays the same. Score an Uppercut kill with Kabb every turn, keep the Advantage flowing with Combat Recon, and lock down enemy movement with Overwatch. Everything else, from Tel-Rea’s Lightsaber Throw to Luco’s fill-in role, is built on top of that AP-cheating foundation.
