Star Wars Zero Company: Best Trick Build for the Whole Campaign

The specs, skills, weapons, and squad partners that turn Trick into a near-unkillable frontliner.

The specs, skills, weapons, and squad partners that turn Trick into a near-unkillable frontliner.

Trick joins your crew early in Star Wars Zero Company and stays useful right through the finale. He is clone trooper CT-3301, injured while saving Captain Hawks on Antine, and he arrives as a Soldier built to shrug off punishment. The reason he holds up so well is his fixed Talent, For My Brothers, paired with a specialization that lets you push him straight into enemy fire without losing him for good.

Quick answer: Keep Trick on his default Soldier class, max For My Brothers, Rocket Strike, Brutal Strike, and Strength early, then take Heavy as his second specialization and prioritize Conditioning and Unstoppable to run him as a self-reviving tank with a Blaster Rifle or Repeater.

Trick’s core kit: class, Talent, and abilities

Trick starts as a Soldier, the most flexible offensive class in the game. He fights at close to medium range, mixes melee with heavy blaster fire, and carries a rocket launcher for crowd control. Because Soldier is a standard specialization, you can respec his points at any time without losing his identity.

His signature Talent, For My Brothers, is the piece that defines every build. Once per mission, when Trick is downed, he automatically revives at the start of the next turn. Since operator death is permanent, a built-in second chance on your frontline is a rare safety net that lets you play him aggressively.

AbilityTypeWhat it does
For My BrothersTalentOnce per mission, auto-revives Trick when downed; upgrades add full health, no injury, same-turn revive, and 1 restored AP.
Rocket StrikeUltimateFires a rocket that damages everyone in the blast, destroys cover, and applies Vulnerable when fully upgraded.
Brutal StrikeStandardRushes a target for melee damage and applies Dazing.
StrengthPassiveIncreases melee damage and grenade throw range.
ArmsmasterPassiveAdds +2 blaster and grenade damage; cannot be upgraded.

Early game: bruiser and cover-breaker

For the opening hours, run Trick as a damage-dealing bruiser. His job is to punish tanky targets and close the gap on enemies your ranged operators cannot reach. Strength and Brutal Strike give him meaningful melee output and let him inflict Dazing when he lands a hit.

Rocket Strike is his other early standout. For 10 Advantage he drops a rocket on a marked spot that damages the whole radius and tears apart cover. It is especially brutal against battle droids, which tend to bunch up in large groups, and it applies Vulnerable once fully upgraded.

Pour early Focus into For My Brothers first. The first upgrades let Trick revive at full health with no injury, so you can commit him to risky pushes without parking him in the medbay afterward.
Level Brutal Strike and Strength next if you plan to lean on melee. These raise his close-range damage and extend his grenade range, which pairs well with the rush-and-punch playstyle.
Add points to Rocket Strike a little later. It is already strong at base, so it can wait until your melee and survivability picks are in place.

Best second specialization: Heavy tank vs Assault

Midway through the campaign you unlock a second specialization slot, and this is where Trick’s build really opens up. Two directions stand out, and both make sense depending on how you want him to fight.

Second specRoleKey picks
HeavyFrontline tankConditioning (more health), Unstoppable (hits back when attacked), Bulwark (taunts enemies in a radius).
AssaultAggressive melee bruiserBull Rush and Fleet of Foot add mobility to Soldier’s firepower.

The Heavy route is the strongest use of For My Brothers. Conditioning stacks on more health so he is harder to drop in the first place, Unstoppable lets him retaliate every time an enemy strikes him, and the Bulwark special action taunts nearby enemies into attacking him. Combined, they turn Trick into a walking wall that absorbs fire while his revive covers any bad luck.

If you go tank, respec most of his melee points and focus on For My Brothers, Unstoppable, and Conditioning. You still keep Rocket Strike for burst damage, but survivability becomes the priority. Assault stays a fine choice if you prefer an in-your-face melee attacker over a dedicated damage sponge.

Best weapon and equipment for Trick

Both the Blaster Rifle and the Repeater fit Trick’s Soldier kit, and the choice comes down to how you spend Action Points. The Blaster Rifle is the flexible medium-range option, fires once for 1 AP, and depends less on stacking AP, which pairs well with Brutal Strike. The Repeater trades base damage for heavy rapid-fire output when you dump 2 or 3 AP into a single burst.

WeaponDamageCritBest for
Blaster Rifle10+6 (11% chance)Steady medium-range damage, less AP-hungry, pairs with melee.
Repeater8+4 (11% chance)Burst damage that scales with the AP you spend.

Give Trick one of your better gun upgrades since he lands a lot of hits over a mission. A Targeting Visor helps him connect more often, and an Impact Bomb is a strong pick if you are leaning into Strength for the extra throw range. Against the Separatist droid armies, swap to an Ion variant, which is the intended counter to droids.

Squad pairings that support the build

Trick works best when he draws enemy attention so the rest of the squad can operate freely. Mobile, high-damage operators like Cly and Tel thrive next to him, roaming the field to pick off backline units or finish anyone locked onto your clone trooper.

A Medic rounds out the setup. Combat Stim boosts his max health and damage before a push, and Medpacs keep him topped up between fights. Even if he does go down, For My Brothers brings him back ready to fight. Consider a Longarm Blaster on your Medic so they can sit in the backline, provide Overwatch, and heal while still contributing damage.

Trick is also naturally bonded to Hawks through their shared history on Antine. Deploying the two together builds that Bond, which feeds Focus Points and a cross-training bonus, so keep him in a steady core rotation rather than benching him.

Focus priority order

Progression runs on Focus Points spent in the Focus Tree, not levels, and those points mostly come from Bonds. Spend them in this order to get the most out of the tank build.

  • For My Brothers first upgrades (full-health revive, no injury on first down).
  • Melee picks Brutal Strike and Strength early, or Heavy’s Conditioning and Unstoppable once the second spec unlocks.
  • Rocket Strike upgrades for cover-breaking burst.
  • The final 10-point For My Brothers upgrade last, since a well-built Trick rarely goes down enough to need it.

You will know the build is working when Trick is soaking most of the enemy fire, taunting groups with Bulwark, and standing back up at full health the one time they manage to drop him. From there, the rest of your squad cleans up while he holds the line. It is not the only way to run him, but for a dependable frontline that refuses to stay down, this is the setup to beat.
