Update 3 turned Steal An Egg into a game with a boss fight in it. Rifts now tear open across the map on a timer, and walking into one drops you into an arena with the Abyss Overlord and every other player on your server. Beat it and you walk out with Boss Tokens, the currency behind the Boss Shop and the Boss Mastery track.
Quick answer: Wait for the “Abyss Overlord is spawning in 30 seconds” notification, head to the Titan Temple or Cherry Blossom biome, walk into the purple portal, shatter the crystals around the boss, then hit its arms when they drop. A kill pays 1,200 to 1,500 Boss Tokens.
Rift spawn timer and portal locations
Rifts open every 30 minutes, server-wide. There is no fixed spawn point, so memorizing a coordinate does not help. What does help is the on-screen alert that fires 30 seconds before the boss appears, which gives you time to travel.
In practice the portals favor the far biomes, with Titan Temple and Cherry Blossom being the usual candidates. A live Rift looks like a glowing purple portal with a heavy aura around it, so it is hard to miss once you are in the right zone. Since the timer is shared, everyone in the server sees the same portal at the same time.

The portal is shared rather than instanced. Multiple players can pile into the same Rift, and because damage stacks, joining a crowd makes the fight considerably shorter than soloing it. If you are playing with friends, get them in the same server before the timer fires.

The Overlord has two phases and neither of them starts with hitting the boss. Attacking the body out of order wastes the whole fight window, so follow the sequence.

You know the kill registered when Boss Tokens land in your inventory and your Boss Mastery counter ticks up by one. Tokens are spendable in the Boss Shop right away, with no cooldown between the fight and the purchase.
Boss Shop prices and what to buy first
Each Overlord kill hands out 1,200 to 1,500 Boss Tokens, which is enough for several purchases in one go. The shop stocks short boosters and the mutation consumable.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| 10-Minute 2x Cash Booster | 175 Boss Tokens |
| 10-Minute 2x Treadmill Booster | 200 Boss Tokens |
| 5-Minute 1.25x Speed Boost | 225 Boss Tokens |
| 10% Mutation Consumable | 400 Boss Tokens |
The 400-token Mutation Consumable applies the Fractured Mutation for an extra 10% money gain, and outside of the Boss Mastery grind there is no other route to it. If you are actively farming treadmills or cash, the two boosters are cheaper and more immediately useful.
Boss Mastery rewards for repeat kills
Every Overlord defeat also adds a Boss Mastery Point, and the milestones pay out separately from your tokens. Rewards arrive automatically as you hit each level.
| Mastery level | Reward |
|---|---|
| 1 | Riftborn Egg |
| 3 | Riftborn Egg |
| 5 | +50% permanent Token boost |
| 10 | Riftbeasts Egg |
| 15 | Mutated Riftborn Egg |
| 20 | Random Mutated Egg |
| 30 | Random Mutated Egg |
Level 5 is the one worth grinding toward early, since the permanent token boost compounds across every kill after it. Animals pulled from Rift Eggs register in the Pet Index like any other creature, where completed entries can be claimed for their listed rewards.

Rift Machine sacrifices and Rift Egg odds
The Rift Machine in the lobby runs on its own system and does not use Boss Tokens. It asks for three specific animals, and handing all three over produces one Rift Egg. The requested trio rotates every three hours, and those rotations are synced globally, so every server sees the same banner at once.
Read the panel before you go hunting. The machine names each requested animal and tells you which biome it comes from, and a previous combination is no guide to the current one. You can reroll the request, but there is no way to steer which animals show up next.
| Rift Egg | Craft chance | Rarest pet | Earning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riftborn Egg | 45% | World Eater (Eternal) | 500M/s |
| Riftbeasts Egg | 35% | Void Serpent (Eternal) | 900M/s |
| Shattered Rift Egg | 20% | Shattered Colossus (Divine) | 3.5B/s |
Each banner holds five exclusive animals. Riftborn covers Rift Eye, Voidmaw, Ventinal, Wendigo and World Eater; Riftbeasts covers Void Angler, Riftwing, Dreadclaw, Mawbreaker and Void Serpent; Shattered Rift covers Shardling, Shattered Ram, Shardwing, Shattered Drake and Shattered Colossus. Within each egg, the top-tier pet sits at 0.5%, so the Shattered Colossus at 0.5% of a 20% egg is the single rarest pull in the whole system.
The farm loop is short enough to slot between egg runs. Watch for the spawn notification, travel to the far biomes, clear crystals then arms, bank the tokens, and check the Rift Machine panel while you wait out the next 30-minute window in Steal An Egg. Two Rifts an hour adds up fast if you stay in a populated server.
