Everything else in the update — a certificate upgrade shop, a meltdown event at the power plant, purchasable cleaning sprays, and a one-click shelf stocker — either feeds into that chase or removes friction from the selling loop.
Quick answer: To unlock the Onyx mutator, break Mike out of the police station using a home carpet and 5–6 spoons, then find him in the back alley with at least 1,575 luck to open the Onyx conversation.

How to unlock the Onyx mutator (175x value)
Onyx is not a random drop you can luck into from an auction locker. It is gated behind Mike, the NPC sitting in the jail cell, and the questline has a hard luck requirement at the end. Get the items first, because the luck check only appears after he is out.
You know it worked when the Onyx conversation actually opens with Mike in the alley and Onyx starts appearing as a possible mutator on items. If he still turns you away in the back alley, the cause is almost always the luck total, not the quest items.
Premium Certificate Shop location and the 150 gem upgrade
The Premium Certificate Shop sits in the pocket of map between Business Bay, Lucky Beach, and the Pyramid. It exists for one job: taking a Wooden Certificate of Authenticity and turning it into a Premium certificate for 150 gems.
The payoff is the accessory stat pool that Premium certificates can roll. Club Pact, Droughtbreaker, Golden Hour, Mutated Luck, and Temporal Split are the new entries, and they lean heavily toward luck generation — which is exactly what you need to clear Mike’s 1,575 luck gate.
Luck rewards scale with mutation tier, and Onyx sits at the top of that ladder:

Cleaning sprays and the Pure and Spotless mutators
The Item Cleaning Service NPC now sells cleaning sprays outright for gems, in Small, Large, and Industrial sizes. Using one gives a chance at the Pure and Spotless mutators, so cleaning is no longer something you only do when the machine happens to be free.
Note: sprays are a gem sink, so it is worth saving them for items whose base value makes a mutator roll meaningful rather than burning them on low-tier junk.
Nuclear Meltdown event at the power plant
Venting the weather machine at the power plant usually produces acid rain. There is now a small chance it triggers a Nuclear Meltdown instead, and that window is short — the event runs for roughly four to five minutes before the map returns to normal.
While it is active, two new mutators can appear, Radioactive and Nuclear, alongside exclusive items and mutant fish that cannot be obtained at any other time. Because it is a chance outcome rather than a scheduled event, there is no way to force it; you vent the machine and see what you get.
Fill All Shelves in your shop
The least flashy addition is the one you will use most. Fill All Shelves lets you pick the items you want on display and push them onto your shop shelves in a single action, instead of placing each piece by hand after every haul.
Taken together, the update pushes players toward a specific loop: build luck through Premium certificate accessory stats, clear Mike’s questline for Onyx, and spend less time arranging shelves between runs. The Nuclear Meltdown event and cleaning sprays are the volatile parts of that loop — worth chasing, but not something you can plan a session around.
