Murohn’s Lair is one of the marked monster dens scattered across Vale Sangora, and it is easy to walk away from it thinking the encounter is bugged. Show up in daylight and there is no boss, no fight, and nothing to loot. The lair is night-locked, and the fight only exists once the moon is up.
Quick answer: Travel to Murohn’s Lair, walk to the nearest shrine and wait until Moonrise, then return to the lair to trigger Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity and kill it for Murohn’s Blood.
Murohn’s Lair spawn condition: Night only
Monster lairs are marked on the map with a white cave icon. Most of them can be cleared at any hour, but some carry a small sun or moon icon next to the marker, which means the miniboss inside only exists during that half of the cycle. Murohn’s Lair is a moon entry.
Approach it during the day and you get the location name, the warning text “A deadly beast lives here,” and a line from Coen noting that he could come back when the moon is out. That line is the confirmation you are in the right place at the wrong time. Nothing spawns until the cycle flips over to night.

Murohn are failed vampire transformations, created when a Vrakhir’s fang lands somewhere other than the victim’s heart. They turn up in several spots across the valley, so the same fight can appear at more than one lair.

Time does not tick along on its own. It moves in hourglass chunks tied to what you do, with eight of them making up the day and another eight the night, so you cannot simply stand outside the cave until the sun goes down. Shrines are the fastest way to push the clock forward.

Note: burning hourglasses has a cost elsewhere in the game, since quests and deadlines run on the same clock. Only skip as far ahead as you need.
How to beat Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity
Murohn is fast and fights in bursts. It throws out flurries of claw swipes designed to catch you mid-animation, and it will dodge your swings and counter immediately if you keep pressing. Playing defensively and punishing the recovery frames is far more reliable than trading hits.

Combat is directional, so every attack, block, and dodge comes from the left, right, top, or bottom. A directional block costs no stamina and a well-timed one restores stamina while opening the boss up for a counter. The Omniblock, held without a direction, is safer but drains stamina, and it does nothing against unblockable moves.
| Attack | What it does | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Leaping Slash | Lunges forward and finishes with a left claw swipe | Dodge away, or parry it and punish |
| Overhead Claw Slash | Raises both claws and brings them straight down | Unblockable — strafe sideways or back out of range |
| Upward Claw Slash | Quick rising swipe with the left claw | Dodge away rather than attempting a parry |
Vary the direction of your own attacks. Repeatedly swinging from the same side makes enemies more likely to block, and Murohn already punishes predictable pressure. Bait a swipe, block or dodge it cleanly, land two hits, then reset your spacing.

Because the fight happens at night, food and medicine will not heal Coen. Blood is your only recovery, so keep a source nearby and top yourself off before the health bar gets low enough to push you toward losing control.
Murohn’s Lair rewards and loot
Clearing a monster lair grants XP and Skill Points and pushes your level up, which matters before heading into the higher-level regions further south. The body itself is the main prize, and the camp around the lair is worth a sweep before you leave.
| Source | What you get |
|---|---|
| Murohn’s body | Murohn’s Blood, Survivor’s Ring, Denarius |
| Surrounding camp | Blacksmith’s Bracers, Hunter’s Journal, Minor Powder of Sharp Mind, Golden Tableware, Echoes of Silenced Bells |
Murohn’s Blood is the standout item. It provides 100% Vampiric Health Segment Restoration, which makes it a strong emergency heal for night sections where nothing else will bring Coen back up.
Drops are not identical at every site. The Murohn found in the ruined hut northeast of the Briar Sloughs Crossing shrine, for instance, leaves behind Murohn Blood along with the Second Letter from Rozalia, a Human Slayer’s Pendant, and Rags. Check each body rather than assuming the same list.
Confirming the kill and fixing a no-spawn lair
You know the fight registered when the named health bar for Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity empties, the body drops in place, and the loot prompt appears with Murohn’s Blood in it. The XP and Skill Point award lands at the same moment.

If the cave is empty when you arrive, there are only two likely reasons. Either it is still daytime, in which case you get the “A deadly beast lives here” warning and nothing else, or you have not revealed the lair properly on the map yet. Climbing all 11 Towers reveals the full set of lair markers, including their day and night icons.
Other Murohn’s Lair locations in Vale Sangora
There are 32 monster lairs in total across the valley, and Murohn’s Lair is the most common variety among them, appearing far more often than the Kobald’s Nests, Bear Caves, Tatzelwurm’s Lairs, and Wolves’s Dens. Roughly a third of the numbered lairs carry the Murohn name.
That repetition works in your favor. Once you have learned the three claw attacks and the punish windows, every other Murohn encounter plays out the same way, and each one is another chunk of XP and another Skill Point. Just check the marker for a moon icon before you commit to the trip, because the night-locked ones will waste your time otherwise.
