The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Get Durandal in The Cursed Chasm Quest

Reach the broken bridge west of Briars Slough, clear the Echo and wolves, and loot the wreckage for the legendary sword.

Reach the broken bridge west of Briars Slough, clear the Echo and wolves, and loot the wreckage for the legendary sword.

Durandal is one of the legendary swords in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and you can claim it surprisingly early. It sits at the bottom of a cursed chasm that runs almost off the edge of the core map, close to where Coen can leave the valley and end the game early. To get it, you finish a short optional quest called The Cursed Chasm.

Quick answer: Travel to the broken bridge near Briars Slough, drop into the chasm, defeat the wolves and the summoned Vidmos and Echo, then loot the largest wreckage pile. Durandal is inside it, alongside Denarius and a recipe.

Where the Durandal chasm is located

The chasm is an undesignated spot tucked into a valley west of the main map, near Briars Slough and not far from Laslea Glen, your starting area. The whole place looks haunted because it is under a curse that needs purifying. Two segments of your timeline are spent while you work through the encounter, so plan around your Time Segments before you commit.

How to start The Cursed Chasm quest

There are two ways to trigger the quest. You can reach the site directly from a nearby shrine, or you can pick up the lead from an NPC in Svartrau City first.

Fast travel to the Coward’s Path Shrine. This is your anchor point for reaching the chasm on foot.
Head west toward the mountains, then climb the northwestern hills. Keep moving until you reach a broken bridge.
Approach the broken bridge to enter the cursed area. Crossing into it begins the quest and marks the zone that needs purification.

Alternatively, visit the tavern by the market in Svartrau City and ask the Innkeeper if he has heard anything interesting. He mentions Knyaz Skender’s men who fell into a chasm along with their forgotten treasures, which starts The Cursed Chasm and points you toward the destroyed bridge near Briars Slough.

Clearing the chasm and claiming Durandal

Descend into the valley. Use your Shadowstep Ability and claws to drop down quickly, or follow the descending path by returning to the Coward’s Path Shrine and heading straight west instead of northwest.
Defeat the wolves waiting at the bottom. They attack first and soften you up before the real fight.

Beat the summoned Vidmos and the Echo wraith. This is the toughest part of the encounter, so keep your healing ready before you engage.
With the enemies down, activate Focus Mode to highlight every piece of wreckage and each skeleton you can interact with. Inspect the skeleton to pull a Ring and the Final Report, a letter explaining that Catalin fled the valley with a large amount of silver before the Vrakhiri attack, and that the soldiers refused to fight and tried to escape too.
Loot the largest wreckage pile. Durandal is inside it, along with Denarius and a recipe. Search the surrounding wreckage as well to grab the Treasure Map: Silver Cache, which starts the Finders Keepers quest.

Everything you can loot from the chasm

The wreckage holds far more than the sword. Here is what you can walk away with once the area is clear.

Confirming the quest is done and what to do next

You know it worked when Durandal appears in your inventory and The Cursed Chasm registers as complete. Because you can upgrade weapons at daytime Blacksmiths, Durandal can stay useful well past the early hours if you keep leveling it up.

From here you have two natural follow-ups. Take the silver you gathered to the Silver Trader in Svartrau City to convert it into Denarius, or use the Treasure Map you found to chase the Silver Cache, which is guarded by more wolves and a dangerous Pack Leader. If it is daytime, you can also head west and clear the nearby Ancient Circle for extra rewards.
