How to Get the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Every step to claim the broken blade, gather all three shards, reforge it, and temper it into a legendary greatsword.

Every step to claim the broken blade, gather all three shards, reforge it, and temper it into a legendary greatsword.

The Imbued Sword of St. Mihai is one of the strongest greatswords in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and getting it takes two connected quests plus a final combat trial. You first recover a broken hilt from a crypt beneath Svartrau Cathedral, then track down three sword shards scattered across Vale Sangora, hand everything to a specific uriashi blacksmith, and finish by clearing a wave-based fight in a cave.

Quick answer: Complete “A Monk and a Saint” to loot the Broken Sword of St. Mihai, collect the three Sword Shards during “Forge It Anew,” bring all four pieces to the Uriash Hermit in Withered Gorge to get the Restored Sword, then clear the enemy waves in the marked cave to turn it into the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai.

Final weapon stats

Fully upgraded, the sword is a Legendary Greatsword that outputs high raw damage and scales best with Strength. Its bonuses cover Swordmastery ability cooldown, critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and damage against supernatural enemies. Completing the whole chain also unlocks the “Arbiter’s Blade” achievement.

Start “A Monk and a Saint” to recover the broken hilt

The hilt is technically the Broken Sword of St. Mihai, and it drops from a boss at the end of “A Monk and a Saint.” Before that quest opens, you must finish Anca’s “Echoes of Silenced Bells” quest, which points you toward a monk named Albertus.

Travel to The Middens, the slums on the western edge of Svartrau City. Undead dogs roam the area, so stay ready for fights as you move through it.
Keep Focus Mode active and look for wall glyphs until you reach a house completely covered in them. Albertus is inside, in a confused state.
Answer his riddle about St. Mihai’s legend by writing the correct responses on the wall in order. The answers are listed below.
#Correct answer
1Abelard the Sorrowful
2Svartrau plaza
3His penance, the place of his redemption
4Never once set foot inside it
5St. Mihai, a great warrior, arrived at Vale Sangora

Thank Albertus once the answers are correct, and grab the Herbal Remedies I Manual from the pile of discarded items before you leave.

Head to Svartrau Cathedral’s courtyard and investigate the well, which costs 1x Time Segment to enter. Deal with the kobolds below, then inspect the corpse against the wall (another Time Segment) to learn about St. Mihai’s memorial stone.

Return topside and go to the garden with the stone cross. Facing the cross, interact with the third memorial stone from the left. Coen moves the block to reveal a hidden passage, costing 1x Time Segment.

Fight Mihai, Patron Saint of the Cathedral, in the catacombs. He uses rapid unblockable lunges, blankets the area in thick fog, and follows with a flanking strike. Defeat him and loot the Broken Sword of St. Mihai. If it is still daytime, compel his spirit and pick up the Worn Sheathe and Broken Chains for the full backstory.

This quest hands you 1,000 XP and an extra skill point. The broken blade is nearly useless on its own, which is why the shard hunt comes next.

Collect all three Sword Shards in “Forge It Anew”

With the hilt in hand, “Forge It Anew” tasks you with finding three Silver Sword Shards. Most sit in caves, but the last one has been carried off and needs an extra step. You can stumble onto the first shard early, but the later stages are tuned for a stronger character, so come prepared.

Shard 1: Maragir Wealds

The first shard sits in a cave in the Maragir Wealds, far east of Mert’s Mill and north of the Upper Maragir Wealds Shrine, tucked in the woods. Inside, inspect the broken cross at the rear of the room to find the shard beside it. You will also pick up a crudely drawn map that marks the approximate locations of the other two caves.

Shard 2: Giant’s Pawns

The second cave is northwest of Shrike’s Crag and southwest of Parlita, in the region known as Giant’s Pawns. Corpses lie outside, and you must crouch to slip through the small entrance. Inside waits Munch-Munch, a tough miniboss well above the smaller enemies you have faced so far. Once it falls, grab the shard from the nest at the back of the room.

Shard 3: Tantari Woods and Xanthe’s camp

The third cave lies southeast of the Crossroads Inn where you meet Anca after leaving Laslea, near Tantari Woods. This one has already been ransacked by soldiers flying Xanthe’s colors, so the shard is gone when you arrive.

The trail leads to a soldier encampment south of Tantari, close to the Drunken Bear Inn. Xanthe’s troops hit harder than earlier foes, so be careful on a first encounter. Clear the camp and search the tent to recover the stolen shard, which sits on top of a barrel to the right as you enter.

Note: A soldier in this final camp drops The Kingslayer, a Legendary Greatsword, so it is worth looting everyone before you leave.

Reforge the blade with the Uriash Hermit

Only one smith in Vale Sangora can rebuild the weapon, and that is the Uriash Hermit at the Uriashi Hermitage in Withered Gorge. It sits far northwest of Mert’s Mill and the Military Camp, through the woods at the edge of the map.

Speak with the hermit and make clear you intend to kill Brencis. That is the condition for their help.
Hand over the Broken Sword of St. Mihai together with all three Sword Shards. The smith reforges everything into the Restored Sword of St. Mihai.

The Restored Sword is already one of the game’s stronger weapons, but it is not the final form yet.

Temper the sword to unlock its Imbued form

After you receive the Restored Sword, a new location appears even further northwest than the Uriashi Hermitage. That is where the weapon reaches its legendary tier.

Travel to the marked cave. It holds several combat challenges built around waves of “Echoing Anger” enemies, roughly half a dozen in total.
Clear every enemy wave, using the Restored Sword to power through. When the last wave falls, place the blade in the glowing red orb.
Watch the short cutscene. The weapon becomes the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, its final and strongest state.

You know it worked when the cutscene finishes and the item in your inventory reads Imbued Sword of St. Mihai instead of Restored. Finishing the full chain also pops the “Arbiter’s Blade” achievement. From there the greatsword is yours to keep, and few weapons in the game push out more raw damage.
