The Phial of Ambrus’s Blood is a Unique consumable in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and drinking it permanently unlocks the Scarlet Shield passive in Coen’s Vampirism tree. It also pushes his Corruption up sharply, so it isn’t a casual sip. There are two reliable ways to add one to your inventory, and the most straightforward is a short side quest called Lost Blood in St. Tyna’s Grove.
Quick answer: Head north of the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine in St. Tyna’s Grove, follow the blood trail west into the cave, kill Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity, and loot the phial from its corpse.
What the Phial of Ambrus’s Blood does
The phial holds blood taken from Ambrus, the youngest of the vampiric vassals. Its in-game description is blunt about the trade-off, noting that his blood is potent despite his age and that drinking it significantly raises Corruption. What you get in return is Scarlet Shield, a defensive passive in the Vampirism tree that restores health after you block.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Unique |
| Type | Consumable (Shared) |
| Weight | 0.1 |
| Cost | 158 |
| Effect on use | Unlocks Scarlet Shield in the Vampirism tree; significantly increases Corruption |
Scarlet Shield scales as you invest skill points and raise Corruption. At its base rank it restores 20 percent of a Health Segment after a Perfect Block, with a 20 percent chance to trigger on a Directional Block and 10 percent on an Omniblock. The upper ranks add lifesteal on the follow-up attack and a chance to convert any block into a Perfect Block.
| Corruption | Points | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| — | 1 | Restore 20% of Health Segment after Perfect Block. 20% chance after Directional Block, 10% after Omniblock. |
| 6 | 1 | Restore 25%. 20% chance after Directional Block, 15% after Omniblock. |
| 10 | 2 | Restore 25%. 20% after Directional Block, 20% after Omniblock. Attack after Perfect Block heals 10% of damage dealt. |
| 13 | 3 | Restore 30%. 30% after Directional Block, 25% after Omniblock. Same lifesteal, plus 25% chance for any Block to become a Perfect Block. |

Add to Google Preferences →Where to find the phial in the Lost Blood quest
Lost Blood triggers on its own. There’s no quest board and no NPC to talk to first, so simply getting close to the wreckage or the cave entrance in northern St. Tyna’s Grove starts it. The whole thing costs two time segments, one for the fight and one for the trip into the city.

That’s the phial secured. Everything after this point closes out the quest and pays the rest of the rewards, but the consumable is already yours and cannot be lost.
Finishing Lost Blood in Silberstein
Before leaving the cave, use Focus Mode again and read the Letter from Father sitting on the bed. It reveals that Murohn was once a person, and it points you to its author in Silberstein, a district of Svartrau City. There’s Cave Fungus and a bit of loot scattered around the chamber if you want it.

You’ll know it worked when the quest closes out in the journal and the Medicus manual unlocks alongside the experience payout. The trader’s coin arrives during that second conversation.
The second phial: Xanthe’s Recruiters: Just a Bit More
If you want another Phial of Ambrus’s Blood, or you’d rather skip the cave boss entirely, there’s a Court activity south of Svartrau City that hands one over as a quest reward. It’s a much lighter encounter than a full outpost.
Before you drink it
Corruption is the real cost here. A single phial moves the meter a long way, and Corruption feeds into how the rest of Coen’s vampiric abilities behave and scale. Scarlet Shield rewards a blocking, counter-heavy playstyle, so if you tend to dodge out of everything instead of holding your ground, the passive will sit mostly idle while the Corruption stays on your character sheet.
Note: the phials are per-vampire, and the others in the set behave the same way. Ambrus, Bakir, Brencis, and Xanthe each have their own phial tied to a different Vampirism unlock, so grabbing all of Ambrus’s blood does not double up on anything.
Lost Blood is one of the cleaner side quests in the valley. Nothing about it is missable, there are no timed objectives once you start it, and the only real hold-up is the in-game day you have to burn while the merchant grieves. Fill that gap with a Court activity and you’ll walk away with a Unique consumable, a crafting manual, and a bit of coin for two time segments of work.
