The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Find the Letter’s Author in Silberstein (Lost Blood)

Track the grieving merchant in Svartrau City, deliver the news, and wrap up the Lost Blood quest.

Track the grieving merchant in Svartrau City, deliver the news, and wrap up the Lost Blood quest.

The Lost Blood quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker ends with a short piece of detective work. After you read the Letter from Father, you have to track down who wrote it, and the trail leads to a merchant in Silberstein. Getting there is quick once you know the exact shrine and dialogue that push the quest forward.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Silberstein Shrine on the east side of Svartrau City, head south to the Silberstein General Trader, and tell him about his son. Wait roughly one in-game day, then speak to him again to finish the quest and collect the reward.

What the Letter from Father tells you

Before you can find the author, you need the clue that points at Silberstein. During Lost Blood you investigate a blood-soaked cart north of the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine in St. Tyna’s Grove, follow the blood trails into a cave, and defeat the Murohn inside. You can also run it in reverse, clearing the cave first and then tracing the trail back to the cart. Either route ends at the same two pieces of evidence.

EvidenceWhere to find itWhat it reveals
Mysterious RingInvestigate the Murohn corpseAn item tied to the dead man
Letter from FatherInvestigate the caveThe Murohn was a man from Silberstein whose father runs a shop

That letter is the whole reason you head to Silberstein. Because the father is described as a shopkeeper, the merchant stalls in the district are the place to look first.

Note: You also pick up a Phial of Ambrus’s Blood during this quest. Drinking it unlocks Ambrus’s skill without having to fight him.

Reach the letter’s author in Silberstein

Fast travel to the Silberstein Shrine on the eastern side of Svartrau City. This drops you closest to the merchant you need.
Head south from the shrine to the Silberstein General Trader. He is the father who wrote the letter.
Speak to him and share what you found. You can pick either “He wasn’t human anymore!” or “I am sorry.” Neither choice changes the outcome beyond a small tweak in the dialogue. Once you finish, the merchant is upset and closes his shop.

Wait a day, then finish the quest

The merchant needs time to grieve before he will talk again. Let roughly one in-game day pass, then return to the same stall.

When you speak to the Silberstein General Trader the second time, he apologizes for snapping at you and thanks you for ending his son’s suffering. He then asks whether you still have the ring. You can answer “I do” or “I don’t.” Even if you say you have it, he simply offers to buy it back, and you can purchase it again right away, so the choice carries no lasting consequence.

How to confirm Lost Blood is complete

After the second conversation with the merchant, he gives you the information about what happened to his son and hands over the reward, which closes out Lost Blood. If the quest hasn’t updated, the usual reason is timing. The trader stays closed until enough time has passed, so rest or move through activities until about a day has gone by before you try talking to him again.

Tip: You can skip the cart investigation entirely and still reach the same track, but following the quest direction makes the blood trail far easier to trace.
