iOS 12 brings a new setting called Automatic Updates in the Software Update settings on iPhone and iPad devices. The new feature automatically installs the latest iOS update as and when it’s made available by Apple.

The update installs overnight after downloading, and you get a notification before the installation begins. Automatic update feature requires that your iPhone must be charging and connected to a WiFi network.

If you’d like to disable automatic updates on your iPhone running iOS 12 and above versions, follow the quick instructions below:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Go to General » Software Update.
  3. Tap Automatic Updates.
  4. Turn off the toggle for Automatic Updates.

That’s it. Your iPhone will no longer update automatically.
