The Mythic Goldfish is a throwable Utility Item in Fortnite that kills almost anything it hits. Land a direct throw, and it deals a flat 250 damage, which is more than any full health-and-shield bar in either Build Mode or Zero Build. It is now back in the active loot pool for Chapter 7 Season 3 after being unvaulted.
Quick answer: Throw the Mythic Goldfish for a direct hit, and it instantly eliminates a full-health opponent (or knocks them down in duos and squads). It ignores armor and shields, and you can pick it back up after every throw.

What the Mythic Goldfish does
It works like a manual, single-target projectile. You aim, you throw, and if it connects directly it applies 250 damage in one hit. That number clears the maximum health and shield caps, so a clean throw is a guaranteed elimination in solos or an instant down in team modes.
The most unusual part is that the item survives the throw. Whether it hits a player, a wall, or the ground, you can walk over and pick the same goldfish back up. In practice that gives you a reusable one-shot tool with no ammo cost, limited only by how well you aim.
There is no defensive status effect or armor value in the current season that reduces the impact. The only reliable counter is dodging the throw entirely, since the projectile moves slowly enough that a jumping, sliding target can slip past it.

Mythic Goldfish stats
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Mythic |
| Type | Utility Item (throwable) |

| Structure damage | 250 |

These figures reflect the current values since update v30.20, which raised both damage numbers to 250 on July 22nd, 2024. The item is not present in Competitive playlists, but it appears in core Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Blitz, and Creative or UEFN when available.
How to get the Mythic Goldfish
You cannot pick it up off the floor or pull it from a standard drop. It comes from two sources, and both rely on very low odds.

The second route is Rare Chests. The drop rate there sits at just 0.04%, so opening blue chests is a slow, unreliable path. Treat it as a bonus if you happen to crack one open during a normal rotation, not as your main plan.
| Source | Details |
|---|---|
| Golden Fishing Spots | Most common in central rivers near the Zero Point; requires a Fishing Rod |
| Rare Chests | 0.04% drop chance |
| Modes | Battle Royale and Zero Build |
How to use it without wasting it
An infinite one-shot sounds unbeatable, but the projectile is slow and demands a direct hit. Trying to land it on a target who is jumping and strafing in a tight final circle is a gamble, and if you miss, the enemy can simply shoot you down before the next throw.
The safest use is an ambush. When an opponent is pinned behind a static piece of cover or otherwise not moving much, line up the throw and take the free elimination. For close-range fights, your shotgun or SMG is still the smarter choice.
Note: A successful hit reads instantly. The target either vanishes with an elimination in solos or drops into a knocked state in duos and squads, and you can then collect the goldfish and reset for the next throw.
The Mythic Goldfish has been one of Fortnite’s most absurd items since it first arrived in Chapter 2 back in October 2019, when it dealt only 90 damage with a critical multiplier. Years of buffs turned it into the reliable 250-damage finisher it is today. Just remember that pulling one out of the water is the hard part, so build cover, keep watching the ridgelines, and make the throw count when it finally appears.
