Mountainsplitter is the boss at the end of the Libations and Offerings objective in Where Winds Meet, and it can be taken down entirely at range with Suixi, the Mountainpiercer. The class is built around a heavy bow rather than a blade, so the fight becomes a rhythm of building Bow Stance, spending it on charged shots, and backing away before the boss closes distance.

Quick answer: Build Bow Stance with basic attacks, spend it on charged Piercing Arrows, and land 12 hits after a Blast Arrow. Finish phase one with Divine Drain, then use the ballista against Heroic Specter.

Mountainpiercer bow mechanics: Bow Stance, Piercing Arrow, Blast Arrow

Suixi does not generate damage from raw attack spam. Basic shots feed Bow Stance points, and those points are the currency for the charged Piercing Arrow, which is where the class puts out real numbers. Blast Arrow works on a separate counter entirely. It plants an explosive arrow in the target, and the explosive only goes off once 12 more hits land on that enemy, so it is worth planting early and then continuing your normal shot loop.

The talent tree carries both actives and passives, including Archer’s Eye on the passive side. Willow-Piercing Archery, Truebronze Arrow, and Sun-Seizing Shot sit alongside the two actives above, and the Mudflow Heavy Bow II is a serviceable weapon for this encounter. Open the Talents screen and highlight the Mountainpiercer node to read exactly what each point does before you commit.

Before the fight: cooking buffs in Xihuang and Lizhi’s Hidden Treasure

Two pieces of prep make the boss noticeably shorter, and both are optional in the sense that the game will let you walk in without them. Neither takes long.

  • Use a cooking pot in Xihuang to prepare a meal for combat buffs such as increased HP and Stamina.
  • Clear the optional hunt for Lizhi’s Hidden Treasure by defeating the birds in the river, which grants enhancements.
  • Run the combat tutorial once if you have not fired a charged shot yet, so the Bow Stance loop is muscle memory.

The cooking interface surfaces a Myriad Flavors tip explaining where ingredients come from. Advance past it with the on-screen prompt and cook before you head out, since the buffs matter more in phase two than phase one.

Phase 1: Mountainsplitter and the Divine Drain finisher

Open with a Blast Arrow so the 12-hit counter starts ticking immediately. From there, hold your distance and keep firing basic shots to accumulate Bow Stance.
Spend Bow Stance on charged Piercing Arrows whenever the boss is committed to a swing or recovering. The quest HUD keeps “Defeat the Mountainsplitter” pinned on screen, so you always know you are on the right target.

Cycle Curtain of Arrows and Slipshot Suppression off cooldown between charged shots. They keep chip damage flowing while Bow Stance rebuilds, and they also push the Blast Arrow hit counter along.
When the prompt appears, execute the Divine Drain finisher. That sequence ends phase one and moves the encounter into its second form rather than killing the boss outright.

Phase 2: Mountainsplitter: Heroic Specter and the ballista

A short cutscene with voiced dialogue plays after Divine Drain, and the objective updates to Mountainsplitter: Heroic Specter. Treat this as a fresh health bar with a new moveset rather than a continuation of the same fight.

Locate the mobile ballista placed on the battlefield. It is a usable weapon for this phase specifically, and it is the main reason the second form is easier for a bow character than a melee one.
Fire the ballista while the Specter is at distance or mid-animation, then step away from the emplacement before it closes in. Reposition the ballista as the boss moves so you are never firing into its charge path.
Fall back on the standard bow loop between ballista windows. Plant another Blast Arrow, build Bow Stance with basics, and dump charged Piercing Arrows once the Specter finishes a combo.

Plant the Blast Arrow before you climb onto the ballista. Ballista shots count toward the 12-hit requirement, so the explosive tends to detonate right as you dismount.

How to confirm the kill

The encounter is finished when HEROIC SPECTER FELLED appears on screen. That banner only shows after the second health bar is emptied, so if the boss is still standing after Divine Drain, you are mid-fight rather than done. The Libations and Offerings objective clears at the same moment.

Run the loop patiently and the encounter rewards distance more than aggression. Keeping Bow Stance topped up, refreshing Blast Arrow on cooldown, and only approaching the ballista when the Specter is busy is enough to clear both phases without ever drawing a melee weapon.
