Marriage is one of the headline features of the Fields of Mistria 1.0 release, and it turns a simple courtship into a full wedding, a shared home, and the option to raise children. The path runs through a single villager you build a relationship with over time, and it only locks in when you hand over a crafted Engagement Ring.
Quick answer: Raise a romance candidate to Heart Level 10, read the Engagement Ring scroll that Elsie mails you the next morning, craft the ring at a crafting station, then give it to that villager to propose.
What you need before you can propose
Marriage sits behind the heart system. In the full release, the heart cap moved from 4 up to 10, and 10 hearts is the exact threshold that opens a proposal with a romanceable villager. You raise hearts the same way you always have, by talking to your chosen character every day, handing over gifts they like or love, and taking them on dates once dating unlocks.
You can only marry a single villager, and only one at a time. Dating is more relaxed, so you can build hearts with more than one candidate at once and even trigger several 10-heart scenes before committing. When you finally pick, that choice replaces the open dating stage with a marriage.
- Reach Heart Level 10 with the villager you want to marry.
- Have access to a crafting station to make the Engagement Ring.
- Choose a candidate who is single, since taken characters cannot be courted.

Note: If Elsie’s scroll has not arrived, the villager is not yet at 10 hearts, or you checked before the following morning. The ring only becomes craftable after you read that scroll.
All 12 marriage candidates
There are 12 villagers you can court and marry, with no gender restrictions, so same-sex marriage is fully supported. Two candidates who were once hidden behind blacked-out portraits, the dragon guardian Caldarus and Seridia, are now romanceable alongside the original ten.

| Candidate | Role in Mistria |
|---|---|
| Adeline | Leader of Mistria who looks after the town’s wellbeing |
| Balor | Traveling merchant who brings exotic goods to town |
| Caldarus | Ancient dragon guardian and one of the game’s unique characters |
| Celine | Gardener who helps at her family’s general store |
| Eiland | Archaeologist focused on Mistria’s ancient history |
| Hayden | Runs the local ranch and cares for the livestock |
| Juniper | Bathhouse owner who dabbles in magic and potions |
| March | Blacksmith who crafts high-quality items |
| Reina | Chef at the Sleeping Dragon Inn |
| Ryis | Carpenter skilled in woodworking |
| Seridia | One of the two previously hidden candidates, now available |
| Valen | Town doctor who oversees residents’ health |
Tip: The quickest way to raise hearts with any of them is a daily chat plus their loved gift, so learn what each character prefers before you start spending on presents.
Starting a family after the wedding
Children come only after you are married, and the path is entirely optional. A while into married life, a cutscene presents you with the choice, so you decide whether to grow your household or keep farming as a couple. Living together as a married pair also comes with shared benefits around the home you build together.
