Beast of Reincarnation: How to Get Hazebringer in Chapter 5

Hazebringer is the Acid sword tucked inside the Matsukawa colony during Chapter 5: Branching Paths. It is easy to walk straight past, because the pickup sits in a side room full of caged malefacts rather than on the main objective line. If you are already inside the giant rotating cube in Matsukawa Zone, you are less than a minute of running away from it.

Quick answer: From the first campsite inside the Matsukawa colony, run straight through the entrance corridors, take the lift down, then go forward, right, and left into the room with caged red plants. Hazebringer is sticking out of one of the cages.

Where Hazebringer is in Matsukawa Zone

The landmark you want is the huge rotating cube sitting in the middle of the Matsukawa colony, in the Mountainous Region. Hazebringer is not hidden anywhere on the surface around it, so circling the outside of the zone wastes time. The sword lives in the cube’s lower interior, past the first lift.

Chapter 5 sends you here with the objective “Reach the inside,” followed by “Head toward the center.” Hazebringer sits along that same route, which means you do not need to detour off the critical path. You only need to know which door to look through.

Route to the Hazebringer pickup

Start from the first campsite inside the Matsukawa colony, the one you unlock after riding the elevator down at the end of the steel bridge. Rest here first if you need to, because a Headless Golem elite enemy patrols just past it.
Head straight for the door in front of you. It opens as you approach, revealing the corridor system that runs into the colony proper.

Follow the corridors without turning off. The path is mostly linear here and feeds directly into a lift platform.
Activate the lift and ride it down to the lower level of the cube complex.

Off the lift, continue straight ahead, then turn right, then left. You will pass a note and a Life Fruit Seedling on this stretch, plus a short cutscene where Emma comments on the cells.
Enter the room lined with cages holding red plant growths, which read as prison cells packed with leftover malefacts. Hazebringer is jammed into one of those cages on the right side. Walk up and take it.

Note: if you keep going past this room to the next elevator and reach the control panel and the Matsukawa Colony: Central Area campsite, you have gone too far. Turn around, because interacting with that panel triggers the lockdown and the Rangifer fight.

How to confirm you picked up the right sword

Open the weapon details screen. A correct pickup shows Hazebringer with 27 melee attack, the Acid element, and the Caustic Touch ability. If your sword screen shows a different attack value, you are either looking at an upgraded copy or a different blade entirely.

Hazebringer stats and Caustic Touch upgrade path

Hazebringer is a sword-class weapon built around Corrosion. Caustic Touch coats the blade in acid for a five-second window, and every enhancement rank raises how much acid buildup it applies. The duration stays at five seconds across all ranks, so upgrades only push the buildup number.

PropertyValue
Weapon typeSword
ElementAcid
Melee attack (base)27
Caustic TouchAcid buildup +5, 5 seconds
Caustic Touch +Acid buildup +6, 5 seconds
Caustic Touch ++Acid buildup +7, 5 seconds
Caustic Touch +++Acid buildup +8, 5 seconds

Enhancement also raises raw damage. Pushing the blade to level 3 takes melee attack from 27 up to 34, which makes it competitive with the swords you are likely carrying at this point in the chapter.

Why players miss Hazebringer

Two mistakes account for most missed pickups. The first is searching the Matsukawa Zone exterior instead of going inside the cube, since the sword is tied entirely to the interior route. The second is riding straight from lift to lift while chasing the objective marker, which skips the cell room where the blade is stuck.

You can still return for it after clearing the area, but not during the lockdown. Once the control panel is triggered, fast travel and Cleanse Walker access are cut off until Rangifer is down, so grab the sword on the way in rather than on the way back.

Corrosion tears through armored enemies, so Hazebringer earns a slot if you are leaning into Acid buildup. Against the Rangifer fight waiting at the end of Chapter 5, though, Lightning is the weakness to exploit, so check your current sword’s element coverage before committing enhancement materials to this one.
