Anime Expeditions: How to Get and Evolve Sovereign (Sinbad)

Sovereign’s Portal requirements, evolution materials, and how the Djinn passives switch between chain damage and freeze.

Sovereign is the Secret-rarity unit based on Sinbad from Magi: Adventure of Sinbad, added to Anime Expeditions with the Update 2 Summer Siege patch. In its base form it does very little. Once it is evolved into Sovereign (Djinn), it becomes a Storm/Physical damage dealer that chains lightning between enemies and locks bosses down with Freeze.

Quick answer: Craft Sovereign’s Portal at the Crafting Station using four Djinn’s Treasure, then host the portal yourself. Hosting and clearing it guarantees the unit; joining someone else’s portal only gives a 2% chance.

What Sovereign (Djinn) does in combat

The whole kit is built around one switch. Sovereign (Djinn) runs in Lightning Djinn mode by default, and the moment a boss walks into its range, Nine Tailed Fox Djinn turns on as well. The second mode does not replace the first, so during a boss wave both are running at the same time.

PassiveEffect
Djinn CombinationLightning Djinn is active while no boss is in range. When a boss enters range, Nine Tailed Fox Djinn activates without turning Lightning Djinn off.
Lightning DjinnEvery attack creates 5 chains, each dealing 20% of the unit’s current damage. Chains bounce between enemies, and if only one enemy is present, all 5 chains hit that target.
Nine Tailed Fox DjinnDamage increases by 50%, attacks apply Freeze, and the unit auto-targets the boss. After Freeze wears off, the enemy is permanently slowed by 15% (does not stack).
Djinn’s JudgmentEvery 7 seconds, calls a Lightning Strike on the strongest enemy in range for 75% of the unit’s damage, chaining between 3 enemies. Each chain deals 20% damage and applies Freeze.

The practical result is that a single boss soaks the listed hit, all five Lightning Djinn chains, the 50% Nine Tailed Fox bonus, and a recurring Judgment strike. Freeze from both the regular attacks and the Judgment chains keeps the boss stalled, and the 15% slow sticks around permanently once the Freeze expires.

How to get Sovereign in Anime Expeditions

Sovereign is not in any Summon Banner. The only way to obtain it is by clearing Sovereign’s Portal, and that portal has to be crafted from four Djinn’s Treasure. Getting those treasures means working up through the Summer Portal tiers.

Open the Tidal Siege Event shop and buy a Tier 1 Summer Portal for 1000 Gems. This is the entry point for the whole chain, so you only need one to start.
Activate the Tier 1 portal and clear the Coral Kingdom challenge. Completing it rewards a Tier 2 Summer Portal, with a low chance of dropping a Tier 3, 4, or 5 portal instead.
Keep clearing each portal you earn until you reach a Tier 5 Summer Portal. Only Tier 5 drops Djinn’s Treasure.
Before entering, augment the Tier 5 portal to raise the Djinn’s Treasure drop rate. The base rate is 4%, and augments can push it past 6%, but each augment also makes the run harder with extra modifiers.
Clear Tier 5 runs until you have four Djinn’s Treasure. Storm bosses in the Tidal Siege event mode also drop the material, which is often the steadier route if augmented Tier 5 runs are wiping your team.
Go to the Crafting Station and turn the four Djinn’s Treasure into Sovereign’s Portal.
Host the Sovereign’s Portal yourself and clear it. A victory cutscene plays and Sovereign is added to your unit inventory.

Note: if you join a friend’s Sovereign’s Portal instead of hosting your own, the reward is only a 2% chance at the unit. If an augmented Tier 5 portal is beating you, de-augmenting it before the run lowers the modifiers so you can still clear it rather than losing the portal entirely.

Evolution materials for Sovereign (Djinn)

The base Sovereign is not worth deploying. Take it into the Evolve portal, select the unit, and submit the following to unlock Sovereign (Djinn).

MaterialAmountWhere it comes from
Sprite (Red)25Challenge rewards, or crafted from Grey Sprites
Sprite (Purple)25Challenge rewards, or crafted from Grey Sprites
Sprite (Green)25Challenge rewards, or crafted from Grey Sprites
Sprite (Rainbow)3Challenge rewards, or crafted from Grey Sprites
Lightning Emblem1Summer Fish Fest Event shop for 10,000 Sand Dollars
Gold10,000Challenge rewards

Sand Dollars are the Summer Siege event currency, earned from event quests and log-in rewards, so the Lightning Emblem is usually the slowest piece to line up. The evolution is done when the unit’s name in your inventory changes to Sovereign (Djinn) and the four Djinn passives appear on its details page.

Placement cost, upgrades, and range

Sovereign (Djinn) costs 950 to place and allows up to three placements. It has 10 upgrade levels, and its attack shape alternates between Circle AoE and Line AoE as you climb them, so where you drop it matters more than with a fixed-pattern unit. Sandbox mode on School Grounds is the fastest way to see each level’s numbers before committing cash mid-run.

To confirm the transformation actually works, spawn a boss from the Enemies menu in Sandbox and watch the unit swap into Nine Tailed Fox Djinn as soon as the boss enters range. Its targeting locks onto the boss automatically and the Freeze effect appears on the enemy, which is the clearest signal that both passives are stacking as intended.

Levelling and evolution both happen in the lobby, so if you want to test any of this yourself you will need to be in the live experience on Roblox with the Summer Siege update loaded.

Best trait and equipment for Sovereign (Djinn)

Unbound is the trait to chase. Because Lightning Djinn, Nine Tailed Fox Djinn, and Djinn’s Judgment all scale off the unit’s current damage as percentages, anything that raises the base number raises every chain and strike at once.

For equipment, the pattern that works is one item that boosts Physical damage and one that boosts crit and raw damage. Warrior Pole pairs +8.1% Physical damage dealt with +4.96% damage, which is worth more than it looks while Nine Tailed Fox Djinn is active. Shinigami Sword adds +8.6% critical chance and +8% damage. Lightning Dagger and Three Swords From Hell are the other combination players run on this unit.

If you are choosing between the two Storm Secrets added in Update 2, Sovereign is the one to prioritise. Lightning God (Overcharged) needs to build 60 Voltage stacks before it reaches its ceiling, while Sovereign is already applying full boss pressure the moment a boss walks into its range.
