The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Craft Minor Mending Ointment

Minor Mending Ointment is the first thing The Blood of Dawnwalker asks you to make, and it doubles as the game’s crafting tutorial. The recipe is short, the ingredients sit within a short walk of each other, and the whole thing takes a couple of minutes once you know where to look.

Quick answer: Pick 2 Ribwort Plantain on the rocky slopes northeast of Hustia Glen, buy 1 Canteen of Water from Rainer the Food Vendor in the village, then open the radial menu, go to Crafting, and hold the craft button on Minor Mending Ointment.

Minor Mending Ointment recipe and ingredients

Only two materials go into the ointment, and neither requires combat or a detour outside the starting area. Coen can gather the herbs by hand, and the water is a cheap vendor purchase.

The finished item is listed under Healing Items and restores a small amount of health instantly, shown in the tooltip as 50% Human Health Restoration.

Where to find Ribwort Plantain near Hustia Glen

Open the map while you are in Hustia Glen and look at the ground northeast of the village, past the last buildings and toward the higher terrain. Drop a Custom Marker there so you have a heading to follow once the map closes.

Follow the rocky path uphill in that direction. The plants grow in the open along the slope, and the tracker keeps the objective visible as “FIND 2 RIBWORT PLANTAIN” while you climb.

Interact with two separate Ribwort Plantain plants. Each pickup ticks the herb counter up by one, so the objective reads 2/2 when you are done and the tracker moves on to the water.

Tip: the plants are close together on the same stretch of hillside, so if you have picked one and the counter is still at 1/2, sweep the immediate area before walking further out.

Where to buy a Canteen of Water in Hustia Glen

Head back down into the village and open the map again. Find the Food Vendor icon in Hustia Glen and set it as your tracked destination so the marker guides you straight there.

Talk to Rainer and open his shop menu. Buy one Canteen of Water from his stock, which is all the recipe needs.

If you already have a canteen from looting, you can skip the purchase entirely. The objective accepts one pulled from a chest just as readily as one bought from the vendor.

Craft Minor Mending Ointment from the radial menu

Open the radial menu and select the Crafting tab. This is the panel the game points you to for consumables, and it is where the recipe list lives.

Scroll to Minor Mending Ointment under Healing Items. The entry shows its ingredient requirements alongside the health restoration value.

Hold the craft button until the bar fills. The ointment lands in your inventory and the third objective, “CRAFT MINOR MENDING OINTMENT”, clears.

How to confirm the craft worked

Two things change once the ointment exists. The quest tracker drops the crafting objective, and Minor Mending Ointment appears in your consumables with the tooltip line “Instantly restores a small amount of health.”

If the craft button will not engage, the cause is almost always a missing ingredient. Check that the herb count reached 2/2 rather than 1/2, and confirm the Canteen of Water actually entered your inventory after the vendor transaction.

Beyond clearing the objective, the ointment is worth keeping stocked. Crafted consumables hold their full value in a fight, unlike food, whose effects are cut down during combat. More recipes turn up as you explore, so the Crafting panel becomes steadily more useful the further Coen gets from Hustia Glen.
