Durandal is the first legendary sword most players in The Blood of Dawnwalker can realistically own, and it is strong enough to carry Coen for a very long stretch of the game. It sits at the bottom of an unmarked ravine close to your starting region, guarded by a short but nasty fight, and it takes only a small bite out of your 30-day clock.
Quick answer: Complete the optional quest The Cursed Chasm at the collapsed bridge near Briar Slough, then loot the golden skeleton remains at the end of the ravine floor to receive the Durandal legendary longsword.
Durandal stats and perks
Durandal is a Level 15 Legendary Longsword with medium attack speed. Its real value is the stamina economy, since it cuts both attack and dodge costs by a fifth, which changes how aggressively you can play the daytime swordplay.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Legendary Longsword |
| Level | 15 |
| DPS | 234 |
| Damage | 143–205 |
| Attack Speed | Medium |
| Weapon Art cooldown | 13s |
| Damage against Supernatural Enemies | +11.2% |
| Attack Stamina Cost | -21% |
| Dodge Stamina Cost | -21% |
| Swordmastery Ability Cooldown | -7% |
Because weapons can be levelled at blacksmiths during the day, Durandal stays viable well past the point where its base level would normally fall off. The in-game description nods at the sword carried by the paladin Roland, and leaves the question of whether it is the genuine article open.

The chasm is an undesignated spot on the map near Briar Slough, at a ruined bridge where the terrain drops into a narrow canyon that runs almost off the edge of the playable area. It is close enough to Laslea Glen, where the story opens, that you can walk there in your first hours without derailing anything.
There are two ways to start it. Walking into the canyon triggers the quest on its own. Alternatively, visit the tavern by the market in Svartrau City and ask the Innkeeper whether he has heard anything interesting; he tells you about Knyaz Skender’s men who fell into a chasm with their treasure, which flags the location for you.
Note: The Cursed Chasm consumes two segments of your timeline. Budget that against whatever else you have planned for that day-night cycle.
How to clear the chasm and loot Durandal

Confirming you got the sword
Two things confirm success. The Cursed Chasm registers as complete once the Echo and its minions are dead, and Durandal appears in your inventory tagged as a Legendary Longsword at Level 15 with 234 DPS. If the quest closed but the sword is missing, you left the ravine before opening the golden remains at the end of the path — go back down and finish looting.
The other reason people walk away empty-handed is simpler. The Echo fight is genuinely dangerous for a low-level Coen, and dying or retreating means the loot stays where it is until you clear the encounter properly.
Everything the chasm gives you
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Durandal | Legendary Longsword |
| Rebel’s Sturdy Coat of Plates | Master-tier chest armor |
| Artisanal Bracers | Armor |
| Loop of Vitality | Ring |
| Treasure Map: Silver Cache | Treasure map |
| Recipe for Minor Balm of Fortitude | Crafting recipe |
| Final Report | Document |
| Denarii | Currency |
The Treasure Map: Silver Cache is worth following up on once you are stronger. It points to a silver stash defended by another wolf pack and a Pack Leader that hits considerably harder than anything in the chasm itself.
Given how early the ravine opens up and how little of the calendar it costs, Durandal is one of the few pieces of gear worth detouring for before you settle into the main story. Take it to a blacksmith, level it as you go, and it will still be doing work dozens of hours later.
