Withering Away opens The Blood of Dawnwalker’s morning at home, and its second real objective stops a lot of players cold. You chop the logs, you get the firewood, and then the marker points somewhere inside a house you have barely walked through. The stove is not hidden, but it sits in a room you have no reason to enter yet.
Quick answer: After chopping wood at the block, go back inside and head to the large room with the dining table. The stove is in the back corner near the entrance to that room. Walk up to it and press the interaction key (F on PC) for the Add Firewood prompt.
What you need before the stove prompt appears
The stove will not accept anything until Coen is actually carrying firewood. That comes from the chopping block objective directly before it, “Split logs for firewood,” which awards 250 XP and one Firewood item. If the interaction prompt is missing at the stove, you almost certainly skipped or abandoned the chopping block.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Quest | Withering Away |
| Objective | Add the firewood to the stove |
| Location | Laslea Glen, Coen’s family hut |
| Required item | x1 Firewood (from the chopping block) |
| Prompt | F Add Firewood |
Note: the front door of the hut is locked at this point. You are not meant to leave the property yet, so if the map looks sealed off, that is intended rather than a bug.

From the wood pile outside, turn back toward the wooden building and go in through the door. The route is short — this is the same structure you woke up in, just the other end of it.

Once inside, aim for the large room that holds the family dining table. The stove sits in the back corner of that room, close to the entrance, which is why it is easy to walk straight past it while looking at the table.

How to add the firewood to the stove

That single interaction ends the chore. Coen says “There. All done,” and control passes to a cutscene.
How to confirm the objective completed
You know it worked when the game takes the camera away from you. Pieter serves oatmeal, the family gathers at the table, and a SKIP prompt appears in the corner. The tracker then swaps “Add the firewood to the stove” for “Pick up your sword.”

If nothing happens when you stand at the stove, the cause is almost always one of two things. Either you never finished the chopping block and have no Firewood, or you are at the wrong fixture — the interactable stove is the one in the dining room, not any other prop in the hut.
The breakfast choice that follows
The cutscene hands you a decision. Pieter sends Yanna, Lunka, and Mirto off to catch fish, then restrains Esme to feed her. Coen can offer to help, which opens two options — “All right. Let’s try,” where he attempts to feed her and she swats the spoon away, or “I won’t feed her against her will.”

Getting through this segment pays out 250 XP and 25 Denarius. Hang on to those coins. Anca asks 50 Denarius for the medicinal herbs later in the quest, and the 25 you have here covers the reduced price if you pick the “You know things are tight for us right now” line.
What to grab before you leave the hut
Withering Away is time-sensitive, but the house itself costs you nothing to search. Two pickups are worth the detour before you head for Anca’s Hut.
- The chest in the dining room holds x1 Parasol Mushroom, x1 Clay Cup, and x1 Fruit Juice.
- The Training Sword sits on the opposite side of the dining room. Open the inventory and equip it — the next objective is literally to pick it up.
- If you skipped it earlier, the chest in Coen’s room contains the Recipe for Minor Mending Ointment, Comfortable Tunic, Trousers with Wrappings, Grey Loafers, and Excerpts from Fabulae.
With the sword equipped, the front door unlocks and the quest moves outdoors toward Anca. From that point the clock starts mattering — obtaining the herbs advances time by one segment, and the quest can fail if you are not back before the blood mass at sundown. The stove chore itself, though, costs nothing but the walk across the room.
