Mistwing and Volutefit are two of the Inner Ways that arrived with the September 3 content drop for Version 2.1, Clouded Revelation, alongside the Skystrike Gauntlets and Riven Twinblades martial arts. Neither one is locked behind a boss fight, a quest chain, or a merchant. Both are single chest pickups in Qinghe, and finding the tome inside is all it takes to unlock the passive outright.
Quick answer: Open the chest in the main hall of the Palace of Annals in Moonveil Mountain to get the Mistwing Tome, and the chest in the lower room of the Scripture Hall in Qinghe Sundara Land to get the Volutefit Tome. Each tome pushes its Inner Way to 100% comprehension the moment you pick it up.
What Mistwing and Volutefit do
These two pull in opposite directions. Mistwing is an offensive passive built for the Bamboocut – Draught path, scaling penetration up as an enemy’s health bar drains. Volutefit is a defensive trade tied to the Winebound state, buying flat damage reduction at the cost of taking more damage over time.
| Inner Way | Path and rarity | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mistwing | Bamboocut – Draught, Epic | Physical Penetration rises with the target’s missing HP — 1 for every 20% lost, capped at 4 |
| Volutefit | Mystic Skills, damage reduction | While in Winebound states, direct damage taken drops by 5%, but damage over time increases by 10% |
You only get four Inner Way slots, so both of these are competing with everything else you already run. Mistwing is the easier fit if you have moved onto a Draught-path weapon; Volutefit only pays off if you are actively sitting in Winebound.

Add to Google Preferences →Mistwing Tome location: Palace of Annals, Moonveil Mountain
Mistwing’s in-game clue reads “Return to these ruins, and you may find something new,” which points at the ruins in the Moonveil Mountain area of Qinghe. The chest sits in the Palace of Annals, near the Sage’s Knoll and Deer Pond landmarks.

Note: the Palace of Annals is also where Mountain’s Might comes from, which needs five separate chests opened. The Mistwing chest is its own pickup and does not depend on that.
Volutefit Tome location: beneath the Qinghe Scripture Hall
Volutefit’s clue is unusually direct. It describes an old master’s journal hidden beneath the Qinghe Scripture Hall among thousands of ancient tomes, and that is exactly where the chest is — one floor below the main level, tucked into the stacks.

How to confirm the Inner Way unlocked
Neither pickup needs a follow-up step. Open Abilities, then Inner Way, and select the entry — the comprehension bar should read 100%, and the clue prompt is replaced by the full effect description with its equip option.
If the entry still shows a clue instead of the effect, you opened a different chest. Both of these locations contain more than one container, so re-enter the building and look for the one that awards the tome by name rather than generic loot.
Raising Mistwing’s tier after the unlock
Unlocking the tome gets you the base effect only. To push tiers, you need to hit Solo Mode Level 4 — also labeled Level 4 Roaming — and then feed the Inner Way its own Notes, which most players collect through the Tips Exchange. Mistwing’s tier bonuses change the passive substantially rather than just padding stats.
| Tier | Bonus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Physical Penetration +3, applied regardless of the enemy’s missing HP |
| 2 | Physical Attack scales with your Solo Mode Level |
| 3 | During a Martial Art’s Special Enhancement, missing-HP penetration rises to 2 per increment, up to 8 (Skystrike Gauntlets–Inebriate, Infernal Twinblades–Flamelash, Everspring Umbrella–Flower Burial) |
| 4 | Grants Attribute Penetration as well, and the fixed bonus rises to 6 |
| 5 | Physical Damage Bonus +2.5% |
| 6 | While Inebriate, gain 12 All-Type Penetration plus extra penetration per 10% HP the enemy loses, capped at 40% lost |
Between the two, Mistwing is the one worth chasing tiers on, since its later bonuses hook directly into the Inebriate window that the new Draught-path weapons revolve around. Volutefit is a narrower pick, but it costs you nothing more than a walk down a staircase, and having the tome banked means you can slot it the moment a Winebound build makes sense.
