NoPixel V: Every New GTA 5 Feature in the September 8 Closed Beta

A rebuilt Los Santos, reworked characters, new movement, and Twitch Drops arrive with the invite-only launch on PC.

A rebuilt Los Santos, reworked characters, new movement, and Twitch Drops arrive with the invite-only launch on PC.

NoPixel V is the officially backed rebuild of Grand Theft Auto 5’s most recognizable roleplay world, made in collaboration with Rockstar Games. It reworks large parts of Los Santos, the character creator, and the way players move through the city, and it goes live as a closed beta on September 8, 2026. The catch is that most players will watch rather than play at launch.

Quick answer: The NoPixel V closed beta starts September 8, 2026, on PC, accessed through the Rockstar Games Launcher, and it is limited to invited streamers. GTA Online players can still earn rewards by watching participating streams between September 8 and September 30.

What NoPixel V changes in GTA 5

This is not a simple server reset. The world is built on GTA 5 as a foundation, but the environments, lighting, and character systems have been changed enough that parts of the map look unfamiliar. The features below come from the development updates published ahead of launch, running through the fourth update posted on September 4, with more technical and gameplay reveals expected before the servers go live.

AreaWhat’s new
Map and locationsReworked textures for assets and map locations; building overhauls around Downtown Los Santos and a roughly six-block revamp of Cypress Flats; new usable Pixel buildings replacing the Mile High Club construction, including the Pixel Hotel & Casino.
PropertyMore than 1,000 ownable properties, apartments, and houses, plus new fully enterable interiors and Parallax Interiors that add depth to buildings.
CharactersDrastically expanded character customization and model reworks, along with 270+ new custom clothing items.
VisualsReimagined menus, HUD, and in-game UI; overhauled lighting and shader systems; a large increase in foliage and environmental detail.
Movement and interactionsCompletely new animation systems and character movement, new climbing, crouching, and leaning abilities, plus new NPC and object interactions with more reactive pedestrians.

New ways to travel by land, sea, and air are also part of the rebuild, and the reworked character creator is aimed at giving roleplayers more options to match a character to their backstory.

The finished Los Santos skyscraper

To mark the launch, Rockstar completed several long-running construction projects around Los Santos, including the unfinished glass skyscraper at the center of the city that had stood incomplete through 13 years of GTA Online updates. The finished map is tied to the NoPixel V servers, so it is not something every GTA 5 player will see in the standard game.

Who can play at launch

Access is the biggest limit. The September 8 launch is a closed beta restricted to invited streamers, who reach the experience through the Rockstar Games Launcher. Because it runs through the launcher, it is a PC-only release for now.

NoPixel uses a strict whitelist, and getting in has historically required more than a download. Applicants have needed a high-quality microphone, a stable internet connection, a unique character backstory, and a passing result on a test before joining. The existing NoPixel servers are not shutting down, but they will not receive most of the features exclusive to the officially partnered version.

Note: Rockstar has said broader access will come in future NoPixel V updates, alongside a new in-game PC overlay and additional events, but no firm date for wider entry has been confirmed.

Twitch Drops for GTA Online players

If you are not invited, you can still gain something by watching. Twitch Drops tied to NoPixel V streams run from September 8 through September 30. Watching participating GTA roleplay streams can earn up to GTA$1,500,000 for GTA Online, plus the Burger Shot Tracksuit.

To collect the rewards, link your accounts and follow the official Drops process on the GTA Online Twitch Drops page. You will know it worked when the cash and the outfit appear in your GTA Online account after the qualifying watch time.

The launch trailer

The reveal trailer shows brief glimpses of the reworked map, new interiors, and the visual changes coming to the mode. Rockstar has also promised that longtime viewers will see some familiar faces reprising fan-favorite characters, along with new personalities starting their own stories.

NoPixel V trades the usual GTA loop of constant gunfights and car chases for a slower, character-driven style where players hold down jobs and stay in character. The chaotic side of GTA 5 still exists inside it, but you play by the server’s rules, and that structure is what turned the roleplay scene into one of GTA 5’s longest-running draws as it heads toward its 13th anniversary.
