Onimusha Way of the Sword – How to Get the Hozuki Pouch: Resistance

The Hozuki Pouch: Resistance is the healing option for players who want to keep swinging Oni Armaments instead of pausing to top off health. It restores health and Oni Power over time rather than in one burst, and it is the only pouch that does both. Getting it comes down to one material, the Oni Cloth (Resistance), tucked behind a barrier in a courtyard south of the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror.

Quick answer: Reach the pouch marker south of the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror by climbing to the rooftops on the western side, break the Malice Barrier in the courtyard, use Oni Vision on the shrine to reveal the chest holding the Oni Cloth (Resistance), then take it to Okuni at Enma’s Hall to have the pouch made.

What the Hozuki Pouch: Resistance does

Musashi carries one pouch at a time and uses it with D-pad up. Resistance sits between the purely defensive Regeneration pouch and the purely offensive Aggressor pouch, because it feeds both gauges at once. The trade-off is timing. Nothing lands instantly, so it is a poor panic button when your health bar is nearly empty.

Before the pouch marker appears on your map

Okuni will not build anything until you have finished the main story mission “Patching up the Pouch”. She flags your starting pouch as worn out, sends you to gather materials, and only afterwards do the Hozuki Pouch markers show up across Eastern Kyoto. Until that mission is done, there is nothing to collect.

Clearing the Malice-emitting plants around Okuni’s stage completes Okuni’s Kabuki Dance and opens up the area she performs in. Some pouch locations also sit behind harmful miasma that only lifts as the main story moves forward, so if a route is sealed, push the campaign along and come back.

Route to the Oni Cloth (Resistance) chest

The marker sits inside a walled courtyard, and the gate facing the street stays shut. Every attempt to walk in from ground level dead-ends, so the whole approach is a loop around to the western side and up onto the roofs.

Travel to the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror and head south until the Hozuki Pouch icon is close. Keep the marker on screen so you can judge which wall you are circling.

Ignore the locked main gate and swing west, then north toward the harbor and pier area. This detour is the only way in, and the map shows a ladder icon on the building you want.

Climb the ladder on the house to reach the roof. From the top you should be able to see across to the courtyard on the other side.

Use Oni Agility to dash across the stone bridge and land inside the courtyard. Nothing else will carry you over the gap.

Work through the buildings inside. Enter the house on the right, leave through the doorway on the left, climb the ladder ahead, and drop down on the far side.

Continue until you hit the Malice Barrier and break it open. Deal with anything guarding the area before you start hunting for chests, since the reveal animation leaves you exposed.

Follow the path to the shrine at the end and switch on Oni Vision. The Oni Cloth (Resistance) chest is hidden until the shrine is interacted with, so it will not be sitting in plain sight.

Before leaving, open the chest sitting near the exit on the left. That one holds Skeleton Hozuki #3, and it is one of only five in the game.

Tip: treat every pouch marker as a two-item stop. Each of the four Oni Cloth locations has a Skeleton Hozuki nearby, and backtracking later costs far more time than a quick sweep now.

Hand the cloth to Okuni and confirm it worked

Return to Enma’s Hall and speak to Okuni. The Oni Cloth (Resistance) is consumed and the new pouch is added to your Hozuki Pouches menu, where it can be selected alongside Default, Regeneration, Aggressor, and later Awakening. You know the craft went through when Resistance appears in that list and can be equipped and fired with D-pad up.

Hozuki plants scattered around Kyoto refill charges between Spirit Mirrors, and the rarer Sun Dried Hozuki restores charges mid-fight, which is worth saving for boss encounters.

Resistance pouch upgrade materials

The crafted pouch starts at Level 1 and Okuni handles both upgrades. Note that Resistance is the one metal-based pouch that also demands Tamahagane at each stage, so stock up before making the trip.

Each Level 3 upgrade eats one Skeleton Hozuki, and there are exactly five in the game for five pouches. Spend them carelessly and you will be short. Taking every pouch to Level 3 is what unlocks the Medical Marvel trophy and achievement.

Why the chest or the pouch is not showing up

No pouch markers on the map. “Patching up the Pouch” has not been completed yet. Okuni marks the locations only after that mission.
The chest is invisible at the shrine. Oni Vision has not been used, or the shrine itself has not been interacted with. The chest does not exist in the world until it is revealed.
You cannot get inside the courtyard. You are trying the street-level gate. The rooftop ladder to the west plus Oni Agility is the intended entry.
The area is sealed by miasma. Story progress is required before that part of Eastern Kyoto opens.
Okuni will not upgrade past Level 1. You are missing Tamahagane, which the Resistance pouch needs at both Level 2 and Level 3.

There is no rush to finish the collection in one sitting. Free roam stays open right up to the point of no return before the final mission, “The Clash at Rendaino”, and keeping a manual save at that point lets you return and mop up anything still missing.
